Easy to shop . Every aisle is clean and workers are friendly.

I am a big fan of Safeway, and not all Safeways are the same, even if one would think so, if compared with other chain companies.
Some carry products that other Safeways don't, and some carry less of them, depending on demographics.
This is understood. Also the fact that some Safeways occupy more real estate.
I must say, that all Safeways have always been clean. Perhaps at peek hours one could forgive the occasional spill on isle 89...
This particular Safeway in Millbrae, is unique, being on the second floor with the parking lot underneath, and it stays very busy. The employees are always very nice and helpful, friendly smiles from the cashiers make your long day a bit brighter.
And most of the employees have been there for a long time.
So this is kind of hard in those regards, as I regretfully say, that their produce isn't always the freshest. Their meat department often half empty shelves, so is the bakery, but that I can understand.
I noticed the whole store half empty, and smaller in choice selections overall then their sister stores.
For maybe over a year or more. Overall products often seem not so fresh, and I have found this at no other Safeway.
Items advertised are rarely available. But maybe just maybe, a hurd of eager grocery shoppers plunder the isles every morning...
All joking aside, it's a bit of a let down, this beautiful, unique Safeway....but these days I rather travel to Burlingame then be disappointed again.
Sorry Safeway! Still a supporter though!

Slow check out

This must be the least taken-care-of Safeway store I have seen in a long, long time! The escalators from the ground-level parking deck to the second-level store were not operating, but there was no signage saying so or anything. I had to try three carts to find one that did not urgently need a tire change and ran halfway smoothly. Many half-empty shelves, only topped by the three-quarter-empty shelves at the checkouts. As in, only three kinds of gum were available to choose from, and the candy bars were falling about!

I am only adding a second star because, yes, of course, there are many stores from other brands that are consistently even worse (and only see me as a customer once). And a third star because several staff members were unusually friendly. Naturally so, not the policy-driven friendliness! But still, I will avoid this location in the future.

You WILL be overcharged for your items every time. I guarantee it. Just got overcharged for 7 of 14 items that I bought. Then I have to waste my time getting a price adjustment. They will not give you a credit on your item if you do not ask. And they won’t give you one that are a mobile coupon because they can claim that you don’t put it on before you bought it. This is bullsh!t and I loathe Safeway with every fiber of my body.

We waited 15 minutes in a queue of 8 people. The staff doesn't give a damn about the customers. I think that the management of this store, for some unknown reason, is absolutely not interested in customers.

A check staff member, Tiffany, went above and beyond to help me sort out some purchases using the app. She is a real credit to the store with a very calm and professional demeanour.

Let me ask you a question. Where do you get your apples? Watermelon is delicious. An orange can be very nice. And who doesn’t love a good banana? But to me it’s hard to beat that perfect crunchy apple. They’re like a massage for your teeth and gums.
Where can we find the best ones? Those neighborhood farmer markets do a pretty nice job. The nearest Co-op market’s aren’t bad but can be a little pricey. Mollie Stone, WFM, Sprouts and Trader Joe’s are all honorable mentions. What about Safeway? They too have nice variety and try to keep it simple. If you appreciate good tasting apples try them. Lunardi’s may simply be the best, but I recommend Safeway.

Excellent place in every way.

Safeway has been my go-to grocery store for decades. This location has serious supply issues. Constantly out of stock, regardless of when we go there. They need to do a far better job of monitoring their inventory.

Customer service in this shop is really bad. One lady at cooked food corner was rude to a guy who wants to have thigh part with extra cost but she only explained him about rules that he cant pick that he wants to eat. too much task focused.. And a lady at CS 'Cindylew' was even worse when i asked her how to join the membership. I don't know why she is so angry when talking. We don't expect people to be friendly but please don't be rude to cusomers.
I will not come back this shop ever again. All staffs here just hate people.

Safe Online

Multiple late night customers were at door, confused in the same way I was. Posted hours on door say until 2am, and hours online say until 2am. However, after driving 30 minutes to the store, all the doors are locked with a group of people outside wanting to be let in. I called the service desk, and after hearing a recorded greeting state that the store was open until 2am, someone inside picked up and said store’s closed, then hung up in the middle of my asking if they knew a store nearby that was still open. I started to drive away, but then stopped to watch more people come by wanting in. I rolled down the window to hear a store worker who had came downstairs shouting at everyone to leave. Someone said that they’d just been there the night before, and they know they’re always open til 2am. The store associate responded by saying that wasn’t true, and that they’ve been closing at midnight for years - to which the customer responded “I’m on the phone talking to someone inside right now, and the recording just said 2am — if you’re not gonna be open, you need to change your phone and web info”. Not really sure what to think… maybe store was doing construction, or something sketchy made them close early, or they were afraid of someone outside, or they really have been closing earlier for years. In the end, I continued to drive another 15 minutes south to Foster City location where everyone was super nice and I got in no problem and was accompanied by many other shoppers. I have clicked the edit link on google and updated the hours to say 12am instead; hopefully Safeway in Millbrae will change the hours on the store doors and phone recording as well.
