Kicked off the New Year with a fantastic dinner at H L Peninsula, and it did not disappoint! This spot offers classic Cantonese-style seafood dining in a traditional Chinese banquet hall setting. The food was affordable, the portions were generous, and everything we tried was packed with flavor.
We ordered the vegetarian and egg fried rice along with the spare ribs—both were absolutely amazing. The spare ribs were tender and full of savory goodness, and the fried rice was the perfect comforting complement. Bonus: the leftovers kept us happy for days.
We’re already planning to return to explore their seafood dishes, which looked incredible on other tables. If you’re looking for delicious, authentic Cantonese dining with portions that deliver, H L Peninsula is a solid choice.

Extra 16% service charge is enforced to be applied on the bill.
The food is over-priced, dim sum is not good.
It tastes terrible. I won’t come back. The quicksand buns are semi-finished products bought from the supermarket and are heated. The ingredients are not solid. The rice rolls are so small. The ribs are very oily. The egg tarts are super sweet.

This restaurant is a head-scratcher. As a Chinese/Cantonese decendant, it bodes well that the greeters and main waiters are moatly native Cantonese speakers. The decor is suitablly grand-- the ceilings of the main dining hall are super high, and there are two giant monitors on either side (though it's basically flashing ads and commercials the entire time). See the videos.
BUT their dim sum is middling at best. We spent nearly $600 for a party of 10 on a busy Saturday late morning/lunch after Christmas, and probably 90% of it was either bland, the texture was slightly off, or the presentation was careless (even for dim sum!). We don't mind spending the money, but it didn't feel special the way its grand decor would suggest. Finally, call me old-fashioned but there are no dim sum carts being pushed around--you have to order by marking on a admittedly nice-looking color menu, which ended up with a waiter coming back to us to clarify the order anyway. And there was not an efficient way to order more food because they don't return that order form fast enough. I dunno ...none of us in the family was at all impressed, especially for the money. We much prefer Mayflower across the street.

The dim sum at this restaurant is absolutely the best in the Bay Area! The shrimp dumplings are perfectly made with thin wrappers and generous fillings, and the durian puffs are amazing. Every dish exceeded expectations—highly recommended! The service was excellent, and the food was served quickly.

Today is New Year's Day, and there is a huge crowd of diners. After waiting for a long time, we finally got seated. The Cantonese dim sum here is delicious and worth the wait, and the food is served very quickly. Although the price of each plate of dim sum is about one dollar higher than other similar restaurants, the chefs make it delicious and it is worth every penny. This restaurant is very spacious and suitable for wedding banquets and similar banquets.
