Surfin Donuts in Mission Viejo is a great locally owned business! Their classic donuts are fresh, soft, and made every morning—easily the best around…I know, I love donuts, they’re my kryptonite. The staff is super friendly, and Kevin the owner is one of the nicest guys I know. It’s a perfect spot to grab a quick treat and a cup of coffee, or sit down for some breakfast comfort food.
The donuts are clearly made with care. The glaze is just the right level of sweetness, and the dough is light and airy rather than heavy or dense. If you like filled or flavored ones, they hold their fillings well and don’t fall apart. The pastries like croissants or muffins are flaky, buttery, and fresh — clearly not something left out for hours.
Word of mouth got me here to try a breakfast burrito as it was supposedly one of the best in the area. I walked in, saw that there were several meat choices: bacon, ham, sausage, chorizo. On my first visit I tried bacon and it was terrific. Second visit, I tried bacon and chorizo, and the chorizo was overpowering. Third visit, chorizo by itself, and it was delicious. The staff is friendly, except they're stingy with salsa.
