While I wouldn't recommend the corned beef hash unless you like chunks of meat with hash browns it seemed like a really lazy way of making that but the chicken fried and gravy were pretty awesome and the overall vibe was cool.

I think the decorations were the only good part about this place. Other than that some of the staff need a attitude check. They only focused on getting us out of here, when I tipped 4$ the waitress started talking smack & calling me words in spanish which I understood all of it. If I could take that tip back I could but instead I just chose not to return here because of that experience 😞 My friends have all experienced this behavior from some of the waitresses when they've gone on their own time. I think this business needs a team meeting and more discipline to those who don't show respect. The attitude matches the food.

My wife, Jessica, and I, along with our now adult kids, have been coming to The Secret Garden regularly for the past four years, and it has truly become one of our favorite places to eat in Modesto and, for that matter, anywhere really. What started as a place to enjoy a good meal slowly became a place we genuinely looked forward to returning to, one that anchored many of our weekends and evening family time.
The food is consistently amazing. Weekend mornings, especially Saturday and Sunday before 2 pm, are always busy, but it is always worth the wait. We usually come for breakfast, and it never disappoints. Some of our favorite dishes include the South of the Border Omelette, the Country Omelette, corned beef hash, and the taco salad with carnitas, and honestly, there are so many great options it is hard to stop there.
What truly sets this place apart is the people. The staff are warm, welcoming, and genuinely kind, and it says a lot that many of the servers who greeted us when we first started visiting back in 2021 are still here today. A heartfelt shout-out to Cynthia, Anjelica, Diego, Leo, and Pablo, who over the years have been our most frequent servers and always made us feel like family. (And Pablo, if you’re reading this, yes, you’re the favorite. The others can fight me.)
Special thanks as well to Andy, one of the owners. He is always present, hands-on, and welcoming, moving through the restaurant with excited energy and calm confidence even on the busiest mornings. His care for the place, his staff, and the people in it is obvious, and it shows in how smoothly everything runs.
We have recently moved out of town, and we will truly miss our frequent visits here. In my 45 years on this rock, The Secret Garden has been an oasis in the desert. Some places feed you. Others stay with you. This one does both.

This place as soon as you walk in is exciting and beautiful with the perfect photo background all the girlies would love, the food is so good we never know what to eat because we want it all. The service is good and they always seem to be very friendly and their presentation of food and drinks are picture perfect a must visit place, good for a breakfast date for sure!

Our First time ever going there, was recommended to go by TikTok. I loved it! Everyone is so friendly! So kind! Worth the 45 minute drive💗 The place looks amazing & decorated beautifully. Don’t get me started on the food! It was delicious! The coffee is to die for!
Enjoy this place. Feel like it’s a kept secret in Modesto. Food is under rated. Family and I come every 3-4 months. Took some friends today and they loved it. But I’m here to share my appreciation for our awesome service by Pablo. Was attentive, engaged with our 6 yr old son, made him laugh and was extremely patient with our large group!
