Earlier today I ordered delivery from Umi. It had been a while since I was there in person but I didn't consider it bad by any stretch. Today was different. At first I was ready to blame the delivery driver on the state of how the food arrived, until I looked closer and tasted it. The rolls included in the bento had partially unrolled, which isn't going to happen from the box being tipped if made correctly. The salmon teriyaki was mushy. Even soft salmon will still flake, but this just mushed when pressed with a fork. The sunomono, the cucumbers were not crisp, and showed signs of ice crystal defrost. Sunomono is also supposed to be a rice vinegar based cucumber salad, yet there was more liquid in its container than there was in the miso soup. There was also an odd bitter flavor to it, and after a couple bites I tossed the rest. The only reason this is even two stars is that the gyoza were perfectly fried, and even arranged nicely in the box, which makes me feel even more that those were not prepared by the same person who made the salmon teriyaki, and the presentation not the fault of the driver (since that would have been messed up too being in the same bad had it been the drivers fault).

Service sucks, sit there waiting 20min or more just to get drinks or order in ! Last couple times I went just walked out & went elsewhere because servers suck

A preferred spot for tasty sushi. Filled me up in no time. The prices are good for what you get. Kinda of like a restaurant in Los Angeles I liked to visit.

My wife and tried Umi for the first time and the sushi was really good... the Crispy Alaskan roll was delicious and so was the one called Kim's Jalapeno it was awesome just the right amount of heat if you like spicy sushi.. the service was a little slow but it was the wait .

Third time going here. Last time the rice in the rolls was mushy. This time- Ramen - I swear I paid $7 for chicken flavored instant ramen and with a few bits of over cooked mushy cabbage and carrots. Oh and a poached egg that was pretty much hard boiled dried out crap. I should have known better when it didn't say what kind of broth they use. Portion was small compared to places that serve proper ramen. Golden Gate roll - got it because I'd never had steak in a roll. Couldn't even taste the meat. The other two rolls pretty much tasted the same as each other. All the sauces seemed watery. The overall taste was just bland, like maybe the ingredients weren't fresh or something. Even the wasabi was weak. And the presentation wasn't really great, if you care about that. The place was cold inside. The bathroom needed some work - dusty vents, weak lighting, mineral deposits, missing seat liners. Service was mostly fine, but when we pointed out they took the receipt back after we paid, they said they always keep them.... really? You just don't give customers their receipts?

This place was my favorite sushi place in Modesto but I won't be returning after today . I ordered 2 rolls and soup to go on my lunch and asked for extra saracha sauce. He said $1 for extra saracha sauce even though I ordered 2 rolls and soup. REALLY .. it just doesn't make sense considering the amount of food I ordered . The amount he gave is probably enough for just 1 roll .. Ridiculous

Great sushi chef! Ernie has great customer service and really knows what hes doing. Very pretty plates. Very clean restaurant nice customer service. Owners are very nice and the other sushi chefs are amazing too! I'll definitely be going back and recommending this place to everyone who loves sushi!

I took my family to Umi for the first time last night. The flavors were great and the staff was prompt and helpful. Most of our rolls were falling apart making it difficult to eat them. The names of some of the rolls were...odd, and I imagine my preteen may have been too embarrassed to order the Sexy Sexy roll or the Sensual Pleasures roll etc. We enjoyed our meal, just not sure we'd go back.
