Village Baking Company HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE even though they were recommended by a couple people bc their food tastes great and looks great. My daughter chose the design of the RED cupcakes My daughter chose the LIGHT PINK color My daughter received HOT PINK blah design cupcakes My daughter and I went in a week prior to her birthday party and ordered cupcakes. She got the design and color from cupcakes they posted pictures of on their website. She wanted light pink frosting, see attached pic. She chose a beautiful design that looks like actual roses, see attached red cupcake pics. We paid when we placed order and brought the receipt in for pickup. First it took 10 mins before the lady helping us came out to tell us she couldn't find a box to put them in to go, Hmmmm ? then another 10 minutes went by and during that time my daughter purchased macarons. There were 5 rows across, each a different color and different flavor. My daughter told her she wanted 2 of each and pointed out the 3 rows. The lady was literally confused and just stared at me. I told her TWO OF EACH and pointed at each row and stated the color. I pointed at the FIRST and SECOND row and the LAST row. She pulled ONLY ONE out from the FIRST row, ONE from the SECOND row and ONE from the THIRD row. I told her it's TWO OF EACH and she didn't want the one she pulled from the THIRD row but the lady totally was not following our very very simple selection. Even with verbal communication, pointing at the row and stating the color. Between the lady not getting our cupcake order for over 30 mins and the second lady who couple follow a simple selection of macarons I was extremely disappointed in this bakery and was very concerned what was going on with our order of cupcakes which we ordered a week prior with an 11am pick on the day of her party. When the cupcakes were finally brought out to us my daughter and I were totally shocked and very very disappointed bc they were nothing like what we ordered. We read the written description that was written at the time we placed order and it was correct along with the 2 pics we provided that was from this bakery's website. It was so obvious they didn't make our order and tried to rush and fake it when we arrived to pickup order. The cupcakes looked ABSOLUTELY NOTHING LIKE ROSES AND WERE NOT LIGHT PINK THEY WERE HOT PINK. My daughter was so disappointed and it really screwed up the start of her birthday and party. I was very clear how wrong this order was and pointed out the written order including pics were all correct it was obvious no one looked at it bc they were busy trying to make the cupcakes when we arrived. Two staff and the manager all agreed nothing about the cupcakes matched what my daughter ordered but the only compensation they offered was a $10 credit to their store. It was BS that this happened to my daughter on her birthday. Horrible experience ‼ Horrible business practice ‼ Horrible customer service ‼ I will never use them again ‼

I bought a white champagne cake, just to find the inside was made of pieces (chunks). I do not appreciate it!

I got a Obskutchen cake yesterday for my dad’s birthday and it was DELICIOUS. It was worth every penny. I’m so pleased with the quality of the ingredients, taste and it was aesthetically appealing. It’s too bad I forget to take a pic. You definitely earned my business and I will be back to get a cake for my hubby’s bday in May. Thank you for making great cakes. My dad was so happy and he loved it.

This place def has its pros and cons. Like everywhere else, it takes time to figure out your preferences and decide what's for you and what isn't. After reading some of the reviews on here i, I wasn't surprised to see so much of my least favorite thing about this place: the whiny entitled customers. Every time I walk into this place I see a rude mother demanding the cookie all the way in the front of the display that her kids rudely crying about, or weirdo trying to have a full blown conversation with the obviously swamped employee during a rush, or the genius loudly comparing the current state of affairs with how things were before the bakery got sold. These customers are the reason my blood pressure rises when I go here and there really isn't anything a business can do to make being around such people tolerable. The coffees decent, some of the desserts are really great, place is clean and updated, and the service tries their best despite having to deal with the brutish hoards all day. If I could figure out when no one else is here, I'd come more frequently and enjoy this Modesto gem. Until then I take deep breaths and keep my glasses on to hide the incredulous look on my face.

They literally have the best salmon bagels. They make the food quick. They are nice, friendly, and respectful towards their customers. I definitely recommend this company.

Always welcoming and quick to help. They can run out of favorites so if you see one item left of something then get it! It's likely amazing. Only haven't liked the cannolis and macaroons. My partner didn't like her cold brew but I just found it bitter and strong compared to Dutch bros or Starbucks. I liked the lavender oat milk lattes I've gotten. The blueberry lemon cookie is a fave. All the tarts have been amazing. I need to try their brkfst/lunch food still.

My mom paid way too much for my birthday cake. It was overcooked and dry. Left an awful aftertaste. Too bad because they had really good cupcakes. I don't think we'll be back for another try.

I highly recommend getting their canoli's, mini cheesecakes, or the cookies. The cupcakes were just regular cupcakes, nothing out of this world, though. We weren't really a fan of the raspberry or salted caramel macaroons. They weren't worth the price.

Stopped in today for the first time.... so happy I did! Have been craving a good cupcake. The displays were so tempting; everything looks fabulous. Tarts, cookies, pastries, cupcakes, cheesecakes, even sandwiches and coffees. Got cupcakes, quiche, and cannoli. All were soft, tender, moist, flavorful, and not overly sweet. Their frosting is perfect ?

Really disappointed. McHenry Village has been a local favorite since forever, but something has changed. The owners, the baker or something.I ordered a German chocolate cake for a very dear friends Mom’s birthday. The cake was beautiful, as you can see from the photo. The cake itself was horribly sweet, it was full of buttercream frosting and just the top had the actual German chocolate icing. Even the kiddos said it was too sweet and walked away from the cake. Really disappointing. I also ordered the chicken pot pie to take home for my Dad and it was so stale and had no flavor that we gave it to the neighbors dog over the fence. Lastly, I purchased a cheese danish and savory Keish slice to eat on the way home. The cheese danish went out the window for the birds to eat due to it being so stale and dry. The savory Keish slice was decent and I was able to eat this. I spent $50 on a basic, buttercream “German chocolate” cake that was sadly disappointing that seriously I would have been better off getting a boxed cake mix and icing in a can from the store. The cake was very pretty though….There is generally plenty of safe and free ADA and regular parking in their parking lot.The inside is decent and dated. The faux display cakes are full of dust and dirt and definitely need cleaning and/or changed out.The staff were extremely friendly, helpful, and kind.Even with the staff and pretty cakes; I will not be back, For the amount of money spent, I’d expect an actual German chocolate cake and not a chocolate buttercream cake….
