A great little spot on myrtle. Food was dtla quality. Great for everyone. I wish they had more space. It looks like a bar but top shelf foods made it worth the wait. Try to book reservations as it's busy on Friday nights.

The State is a great place to rest, have a drink, and enjoy a meal smack in the middle of Monrovia historical district. We were there for lunch and were glad we tried it. The place has bar seating by the sidewalk so everything is open. A great way to sit back, have a drink and people watch. We were there for lunch and ordered their Blackberry barbecue burger and the Braised short rib tacos. The burger came several side options, we chose salad. The tacos were street tacos, about 5" wide, no sides. We tried their Belgian Trippel on draft. Everything was delicious. The short ribs were melt-in-your-mouth soft. Very flavorful. The burger had blackberry glazed bacon with some sort of chili pepper mix. Just hot enough to taste it yet you can taste every flavor. The beer was good with a substantial body, excellent brew. We finished out meal with the bread pudding. It came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and it is a very different bread pudding than what I expected. Most of the time, bread pudding is more like a bread enveloped with custard. This bread pudding is actually cubes of brioche soaked in a custard/syrup mix. It is heavy than a custard but very, very good. I highly recommend it. The service was very good in front. The kitchen is a little slow so if you are in a hurry, this may no be the best place. Because it is a little slower, it truly provides an environment to enjoy your meal with good company and good drinks. We spent about $60 and I say well worth it. We would come back again, definitely. Final note, were there for their car show and was able to park nearby. Based on what I can see, there should be plenty of parking in front of the restaurant or very nearby.

The food was okay, a bit on the heavy side. We came here with another couple and shared a few things. The service was good and we will probably come back for another date night.

Was greeted and seated fast! Very small restaurant than the other States, but warm and friendly! Excellent food and drinks. Great service. Timed it with the street fair and had a good walk after in downtown Monrovia.

Our reservation was for brunch and they had very little available that we tried to order from the bar. The bar was lacking all the items we tried to order, including champagne. Their answer was they ran out, or they don't carry the item. But the menu was not modified and we were not warned before we sat down at our table. The kitchen manageR tried to make up for it with a free appetizer, which was nice. But they are not holding up their end of the chains claim to fame. They need to step it up at this location.

If you are lucky you will be able to meet Jessie. She is both charming and knowledgeable. Leaving her is like leaving a new friend who's number you didn't ask for. She will guide you through the sometimes complicated world of whiskey, like an old friend who has nothing but your best intentions on her mind.
it was a great night. My husband and I took my daughter as she had never been... enjoyed the drinks the appetizers and the dinner. We had a great time. Will definitely come back again. ??

We decided last minute to have dinner at the state. My daughter and I had been in an about two months earlier and ran into a bit of a problem with service. We all have bad nights and that was one for them. I said something to the manager(?) on the way out. She reached out and called me to apologize and offered to make it right if I wanted to stop by and pick up a gift certificate on her. Cut to a couple months later. I never picked up the gift card. She sees me remembers and tells me she still has it in the safe. My family and I had a great time, good food and drinks, and finally fantastic service. Many thx to the entire team at The State. We can all have an off day, it's what you do with it that counts. We'll be back.

Awesome place to grab drinks and good food. Vibe is good, and especially so during the Friday Farmer's Market.
Parking: Parking can be had a few blocks away, also in a garage just off the main strip. Not super difficult to locate, but it's not in large swathes like in down town Los Angeles or Pasadena area... Monrovia keeps it smaller and remains the cozy, relatable feel.
