Ordered Combo chicken + Shish Kabob. This is the only Zankou chicken restaurant that charges extra 3% for credit cards ( Those were the days in 1990 to 2000 years). Noticed the price charged is higher than the sign in their store above the cash register. When I brought it to the managers attention, he tried to fool me and said the price on the receipt is including sales tax. Proved him I was not born yesterday and that he was lying. After waiting for good 25 minutes, the chicken and beef shish was like a piece of rubber. Not only hard to cut with a knife but, also unable to chew it. They are also using the cheapest Jasmin rice ( Menu says Basmati) and rice was under cooked and hard to chew. I returned my food immediately and was issued a full refund and later manager told me that the Montebello store is an independent store and not company owned like the other locations. Horrible experience, will never go again and decently will tell other.

This was not like the other Zankou chicken locations. I was very surprised the beef shawarma was very dry and very hard to eat. They did not know what the garlic sauce was and the chef was confused and after asking multiple times to make sure my order was correct they still ended up serving me chicken kabob instead of chicken shawarma. The food took so long for all of us to get it. Writing this review so the establishment can save this location, the others I went to were great!

wanted to try something different and drove down to this Zankou to get some falafels. The falafels and the hummus were probably the only good things we got. We also got the shawarma plate, and the meat tasted like dried-up, salty mush. Not sure if it had been sitting there all day, but I've had Zankou at other locations, and it tasted nothing like that. The tabouleh salad tasted terrible too, had way too much lemon that overpowered the whole thing. I asked for the garlic and the hot sauce that every other location has, and this one somehow didn't ... like how?! We walked away very disappointed.

Tried Zankou Chicken in Montebello and walked out feeling ripped off.

Asked for an extra garlic sauce (literally the one thing everyone goes to Zankou for) and they couldn’t do it. That’s like In-N-Out refusing to give you extra spread. Makes zero sense.

The chicken kebabs? Sad. Tiny little pieces, like they were rationing chicken for the apocalypse. I got nine, but one was so small it looked like a sample, not an actual piece. For what they charge, you’d expect real portions — not chicken bites that could pass for dog treats.

And don’t get me started on the service. The guy at the counter looked and acted like I had ruined his day just by showing up. No greeting, no smile, no effort — just bad vibes all around.

If you’re craving Zankou, maybe try another location. This one skimps on portions, says “no” to simple requests, and serves it all up with an attitude. Hard pass.

It's dirty there and smells bad inside where you eat. So we decided to eat outside. The tables were dirty out like no one ever cleans them. I most likely will not eat at this location again. Although I love zankou chicken in general. This is my first time having a bad experience. The menu at this location also looks different. So I asked the staff if it was a franchise. The gentleman at the counter stated that particular location was only only franchise so far. So perhaps that's why it's not in great shape because they don't have to follow the same stipulations. And I should say it was dusty more than dirty. Maybe not a lot of people go there so they don't clean up, idk. They should definitely wipe down the tables though. Also we we asked for separate trays for our meals they acted like we were going to keep the tray the staff was nice but I had to almost beg and promise I'd bring it back as soon as my group finished eating.

There's lots of parking but it's a very crowded parking lot with a lot of surrounding businesses.

The staff is nice but not super welcoming. They were a little standoff ish maybe they could tell we weren't free the area idk.

But they just need to clean more, alot more. And get rid of that smell inside near the beverage station and back seating area.

The food here is different than west LA Glendale or Hollywood is not as good as far as the taste. I wanted to tell the guy at the counter but it felt useless that he wouldn't care at all. I been a big fan of Zankou chicken visited almost all the locations but this place never again very disappointed 😞 Montebello not recommended

I stopped in for a bite and was seriously impressed — the Mediterranean chicken was absolutely delicious. Flavorful, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. You can tell they take pride in their food.

Later, I happened to be working on a sign nearby and needed a photo of the finished work after dark. No one else in the shopping center would help, but the folks at this restaurant kindly stepped up and took the photo for me. That small act meant a lot — it says a lot about the kind of people they are. Great food, great people. Highly recommend!

I haven't been to this Zankou a lot, but every time I've been, I have always had a positive experience. The food is always amazing and evokes childhood nostalgia for me. 10/10!!!

Randomly closed on a Tuesday at 5. Not sure if they are permanently closed or what.

The prices on their menu do not match what you get charged, find it very odd. First time here and my last. They don't have the bowls other Zankous have. Should have gone to Pasadena location.

It is pretty good food.
