Love this place, but you have to show up EARLY like at 8am if not earlier. Otherwise, there’s a line almost all day. Their patio is so nice. (Note: photos were taken on multiple visits)

This is a great outdoor bakery brunch spot for families with kids. It reminds me of garden brunch spots in stockholm sweden.

Mushroom tartine was one of the best things I’ve ever put in my mouth. Matcha was green and pure and tasty. Line was out the door at 11:30 am on a Friday but by 12:45 when we walked back around, no line. So much outside seating in a little courtyard. We also got the Ruben croissant sandwich and a chocolate chip cookie. All fantastic. Thanks Alta!

The pizza took 40 min to come out but the staff gave us extra bread, another kombucha, a brownie, and a cookie for free.

Lives up to the hype. Donut was out of this world, focaccia was a delight, avocado toast was obligatory, as they say. Espresso drinks great. Worth braving the line for sure.

Overall experience was meh.
Avacoado toast was okay. The salmon toast was okay. No flexibility on what bread you can choose. Weird.
The hot chocolate was embarrassing. Watery and diluted.
Caramel ice coffee was okay.
The atmosphere is nice.

I recently visited Alta Café while in town for a tech conference and decided to stop by for coffee and a pastry. The pastry was delicious, and the ambiance of the café was warm and inviting, which I appreciated.

However, I did have a slightly odd experience when I asked a staff member (who may have been the owner, though I’m not certain) about WiFi, as I needed to check a few emails. I was told, rather abruptly, “We don’t.” This struck me as unusual, especially since both Yelp and TripAdvisor list Alta as one of the cafés in the area with WiFi.

Curious, I visited another nearby café later that day and mentioned that Alta didn’t have WiFi. The staff there was genuinely surprised, as they, too, believed Alta offered it.

While it’s possible I misunderstood or that the policy has changed, I do have to admit that the interaction left me feeling somewhat uncomfortable. It was a bit of an off-putting experience.

Overall, while I enjoyed the pastry and the overall vibe of the place, I do think there’s room for improvement in both customer service and clarity regarding WiFi availability. I hope this feedback is taken constructively.

We absolutely LOVED everything we tried. The avocado toast was so unique with pickled strawberries and their vegetarian wrap was unbelievable!! Their coffee was delicious too!
We thought we had to take our food to go but they have a beautiful outdoor area in the back. We cannot wait to go back! Highly recommend!

I cannot say enough good things about Alta. Everything I've ever had from pastries to sandwiches have been absolutely fantastic. Easily the best coffee/ breakfast and lunch place in Monterey.

The courtyard out back just adds to the uniqueness of Alta. It reminds me of an Italian or Spanish courtyard. If you haven't experienced it I highly recommend you go check it out.

Alta is a must when you are in Monterey.
