Had a late lunch here before taking whale watching tour. We had the fish and chips (if my memory serves me right, it was $8.5, which is quite okay considering the touristic nature), which was fresh albeit a bit too oily to our liking. Perhaps we expect too much for an eatery that is located right next to a fishery center. After back from the tour, we came back to grab a cup of clam chowder. That time around it was a hit - the savory, warm, and creamy chowder fit extremely well with the cold late autumn evening weather.
A bit off topic, the poster in the eatery cracked us up - I can get small kids like kittens, but espresso (lol)?!

great fried calamari, highly recommended – and I know food because I have written cookbooks. The setting is very casual. Compliments to the chef.

The bartender seemed to be bothered and disinterested because we had asked for extra ice. The food was bland and just not as expected. Overall just not the best meal we had for our first night of vacation.
Good calamaris and shrimps.

Nice little spot for a quick lunch: very good clam cauldron, very good fish and chips but a little greasy, tomato/garlic toast for $8.95 without interest.
Good quality/price ratio

Very small portions for the price and unfriendly staff. A pity.

Food was very good for the most part. Our tomatoes on our Caprese Salad were hard and under ripe but they removed it from our bill. When we arrived, they didn't have any record of our reservation but we had no problem getting a table on the patio.
The service was so amazing ! Once we arrived they sat us right away, and the waiter was a great person ! Very attentive and fast! The food was amazing my husband got the steak & I got the lobster & as well as some calamari and it so so delicious! The only thing I had no taste for was the rice it was pretty bland but everything else was delicious. Great service, and great food ! 10/10
Really lovely experience. We were greeted by staff in a friendly and charming manner. Our waiter, Carlos, was really great. He had a lot of knowledge and was delightful. The food was very good. Crab cakes, fettuccini alfredo, two abalone dishes all very good. Desserts were mediocre but the overall experience was excellent.
It was a sunny day so we ate outside on the patio. We arrived at 11:45 and there weren't very many people in the restaurant. By noon it was busy. It took a very long time to get our order taken and a very long time for the food to arrive. We generally have good service at this restaurant, but today was an exception.

Abalonetti's is a nice outdoor dining choice on the wharf. Service is good. Food is good (calamari) but I didn't care for all the bell peppers in the vegetable saute. The brownie sundae was spectacular. Happy hour ends at 4 pm, why? We wanted to enjoy a few drinks before dinner. So we did, 15 steps across the wharf where happy hour lasts till 6 pm.
Whenever we come down to the Monterey/Carmel area, Abalonetti is a must. Over twenty years that we've been coming, they never fail to impress. The staff is wonderful and the food is always hot and good. My husband had his favorite, Marty's Special, and I had linguine with clams. We also shared our “gotta have it” roasted garlic!!Yummy! You have choices on the pier, but Abalonetti will always be ours. Sorry we missed Stuart this time!
Don’t get the fish and chips. Their fish is either frozen or days old.
When it comes to determining whether the fish used in fish and chips is fresh or frozen, there are a few indicators you can look for:
Texture and Appearance: Fresh fish typically has firm, translucent flesh with a shiny appearance. When you press the flesh, it should spring back and not leave an indentation. If the fish looks dull, discolored, mushy, or has ice crystals on its surface, it is likely frozen.
Smell: Fresh fish should have a mild, clean ocean smell. If the fish smells strongly fishy or has a strong "off" odor, it may be an indication that it's not fresh.
The fish was browning and the batter was overcooked. The fries were definitely refried for a second time.
Save your money and go to Brophy’s tavern in Carmel for best quality.

We had the garlic fries and the clam chowder. Everything was delicious and the employees were friendly, courteous and seemed to be having fun. We loved the chowder. Highly recommend.
