Overpriced, poor service, rude people. If you are staying at the Portola, eat somewhere else. The service is so slow I had to get up and get my own coffee. The food is very overpriced, E.G. the buttermilk pancakes are $16 and you get 4 thin small pancakes and 2 sliced strawberries. The avacado toast is $14 and is dry toast with half an avocado smashed on top, no seasoning. You need to ask multiple times for waters, coffee, condiments, salt and pepper. It was overall a very bad experience.

Nice restaurant, efficient, friendly service.
Ordered drinks, sourdough bread, filet minon and filet minon sandwich. Great Old fashion, and Jacks Mule (their version of Moscow mule).
Bread was warm and soft but a little bland. Filet steak was tender, flavorful and side great as well. Filet sandwich was a little tough.

Excellent value for the price. We live in PG and have eaten here several times. Until tonight, I’d be 5 stars all the way! The food is really good! The price is absolutely fair, and normally the service is exceptional! They could have gotten away with marginal food because the service has always been that exceptional!
My daughter gets the sliders almost every time! This is in fact why we chose to go tonight! She picked where we were eating and she wanted these sliders! When served, there was only 1… I figured that every other time maybe we’d ordered from the appetizer slider option or some other easily explained mix up. I looked up the menus on line and all options for sliders (appetizers and kids menu) call out as plural. I asked our server if she could get another slider hooked up for us and she kinda mumbled and then walked away. A few moments later the manager came to educate us that they’ve never served 2 sliders on the kids menu. (couldn’t educate us on why they are written as plural but “probably because maybe they used to serve 2 or something”). Ok…I’m with my family and I hate the guy who argues in public…so I just ask if he can please prepare another slider for my daughter. They did, and it was great(!)…and problem largely solved. Small thorn in my paw, but whatever. I secretly hoped they would have comp’d the slider or something. Rather I got charged for everything, including every refill! Each of which we had to summon help to get refilled! I know they can’t give away iced tea, (or water) and certainly not beef! But c’mon!
I’m sure they were right and the times before we were on the winning end of several mistakes having received 2 sliders…
And certainly I understand bad days! I have plenty and am not always bringing my A game. Maybe this was that. But it still seems that a better option would have been to explain we were just lucky in the past, further explained that our expectation in the future should be 1 slider and we can option for an additional slider a la carte, then run back cooked the little 2oz slider and served it.
Now I can’t say I’ll go back. There are enough decent restaurants in the area and a few exceptional restaurants. It’s a hotel restaurant so their client mix is probably 80% captive and 1 off (?) but still.
At the least they should change the menu to read slider. They could probably have it changed quicker than cooking a kids slider!
Nit picky? Probably. Overly critical? Maybe. But for $150.00 (yes, we did leave a 20% gratuity), and a lesson in being wrong, I feel it is fair to expect better grammar if they cannot provide better service.

Food was ok but nothing fantastic. The potatoes tasted like they had been heated several times. The worst was the band playing. It was SO loud. We couldn't talk together at the table. Also we found it odd they started clearing the table while one of us (a party of four) was stille eating - but make that's a cultural thing? (We're from Europe).
We arrived on a Monday at 7:15 in July with a party of four to celebrate a special birthday. We were seated in the atrium, as the only guests in that area. The restaurant was very quiet with a few in the bar area. The host finally got A server after about 20 minutes of sitting with no greeting, water, or comments. When our server arrived, her tone was one that said “ I'm done working and don't want to be here. My husband's cioppino was only clams and mussels with two small pieces of fish. The advertised prawns were completely missing. The rest of our guests are without any food comments which means the food was just okay. The final straw for our poor experience was that we had to ask for a desert menu since we were celebrating a birthday. One small dessert menu was put down so we had to pass it around for all to read. One place to strike off the list for future visits. The setting is very nice so I'm sorry that it was a bomb.
Lobby was mobbed when we arrived. Eventually it cleared out and quieted down. Food was very good. Service OK. Live music excellent.
Really appreciate Jack's! Delicious food and awesome service. Special shout out to Plu for really caring about my food allergy and taking the time to help me.

We dined at Jack's three times during our stay at the Portola Hotel. Once for a quick bite in the lounge overlooking the gorgeous fireplace and then once for dinner and breakfast in the far end of the large expansive lobby. For dinner and breakfast we were seated against a walled area which was quieter. All three servers were polite, friendly, and proficient. The meals were outstanding with generous portions, especially the breakfast entrees. Their famous chowder is excellent, had it twice, highly recommend.
Elegant and modern yet relaxed and comfortable ambiance, prompt, friendly, and attentive service, and very well prepared and delicious food. And, a wonderful drink and wine selection.
Really nothing special about this place. Way too pricey for what they're offering. Save your money go somewhere else.

I loved this place the first time I went (big group diversity of ppl) the food is great but then I came back only with my Mexican friend and like 30 min after serving us the food the waitress was already asking us if we wanted a box while the place was almost empty, not to mention they placed us far from the main area and the waitress constantly came to check on us but made me feel more rushed than actually her checking if everything was ok. Kinda disappointed tbh.
We sat by the fireplace and And drink a bottle of wine and it was amazing
Good options, good place in general
The wait service was almost non-existent and the food took forever to arrive after we order it. To top it all off the gratuity was included in the bill.
Really liked this place. Friendly staff and good food.
