I showed up to order a cake for a special birthday celebration. I was met by inattentive, uncooperative staff. I asked if I could sample a few different types of cake; I was told I could, but only if I purchased it. After gladly paying for the samples, I was told there were no servings available even though I could see them in the glass display case. I was begrudgingly reimbursed the charge. To make the experience more incredulous, I was told the cake I wanted (standard flavor, with design) would take four weeks to produce. I settled for a flavor profile I was unfamiliar with, and I overpaid for a cake that my guests did not enjoy. To all of you getting ready to treat yourself to a delicious pastry: Do your palate a favor and go elsewhere.

Layers delivered a beautiful and tasty cake! Thank you Hilary and the Layers team who worked on our cake. Since we do not live in town we went with Hilary’s recommendation and opted for the princess cake and death by chocolate. Both great choices. Would def recommend Layers. Working remotely with Hilary was straight forward. We appreciated the responsiveness.

I always get so excited when I find out that one of my couples went to Layers to get their wedding cake or cupcakes. I have photographed a few weddings where the dessert was from Layers and always heard wonderful things about flavor and texture. I even tend to enjoy some dessert myself here and there, and always LOVE the sweets!
I ordered a cake to pick up. I don't live in the area and so I started by calling. They were friendly and helpful and then I ordered online. I was disappointed that their "build a cake" did not have any flavored frosting other than chocolate and cream cheese (not counting marzipan). They have several cake base flavors and fillings but, for example, if I wanted a yellow cake with raspberry puree + buttercream filling the only suitable option for frosting was plain buttercream. I went for one of their pre-built cakes (carrot) and it was fine but nothing to race back for.
