My husband and I ate here tonight November 20, 2025 while on vacation. The hostess who greeted and sat us and our sever, Jose M. were friendly and polite. Jose checked on us during our meal to see if we needed anything. We both enjoyed our meals, and I appreciated that they were able to make something for me due to my food sensitivities. The restaurant and bathrooms were clean too.

We decided to try out a local spot in Monterey, across the street from black bear, it wasn't all that. We are from fresno and black bear is our go to spot, which the Monterey location did not disappoint. Excellent customer service at every location so far, keep up the great work!

Edit on my previous review: I just checked my receipt hours after eating at Monterey branch and just saw that they only charged 5.49 instead of 11.99 on the menu. I guess the server thought I only wanted biscuits.

10/10 would come again! Great service, lovely restaurant, and delicious food! Kevin was our waiter and he was fantastic. Would highly recommend this place.

Best inexpensive diner type restaurant in Seaside
Family friendly place. We had dinner . Everybody was happy and relax. Kids told us a lot of stories !

Black Bear Diner is literally the best diner in all of Monterey. They have all the bear necessities that my friend requires to enjoy a meal: a clean space, great food, great atmosphere and a friendly staff.

steak and eggs... delish
Yummy diner food. Good at accommodating vegetarian requests. Lots of sweet options and lots of protein options, if you eat eggs or meat. Fun atmosphere. Cute bears everywhere. Family friendly, except the whole restaurant is surrounded by adorable stuffed animals and toys for sale. Be forewarned if you're coming with kids who will want things.
fave, Kevin AMAZING, as was staff friendly helpful professional service, yep MR pig ate the whole thing and some of hers, everything was excellent always a special place for me thank you appreciate your time
