We were disappointed by the lobster bisque but the entrees were really good. We had scallops which were decent size and cooked to perfection. We also had the duck confit which was good as well.
My wife had the sea scallops with a corn risotto that was different and very good. I had the bacon encrusted double pork chop with a very nice risotto and some wonderful brussel sprouts. We shared the excellent heriloom tomato salad. The meal was excellent. For dessert we had the white chocolate bread pudding which we felt was too dry and not very white chocolatey to our taste. We would strongly recommend this restaurant.
Great service, we had the scallops and they were cooked perfectly. A little on the pricey side but very good if you want a nice treat
We had a wonderful anniversary dinner with another couple. We had the Caesar Salad to start. It was crispy and delicious. Three of us had the oyster mushroom 'scallops' that were delicious as well. My husband had the halibut which was prepared perfectly. Dessert was the bread pudding. An outstanding meal, with fantastic service.
Our experience at Montrio was amazing! Our server was professional, knowledgeable, and had the foresight to warn us that there were two unavailable drinks before we read the menu and asked to order them. It seems like a small thing, but it is a measure of hospitality that sets the tone for how well the restaurant will care for you. Fantastic salad and the best halibut that I have had in many years. If you see the catch of the day as Alaskan halibut with puréed parsnips, Brussel sprouts, and pomegranate molasses, I highly recommend it. Great sear on the fish, great service, excellent & interesting wines by the glass.
Some of the best food for value that we have ever had. The jumbo crab cakes and lobster bisque appetizers were delicious! Would highly recommend the scallops as well. The service was fantastic and extremely accommodating at the reception as well as service. The price was even better. I would gladly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area.
Food was actually pretty good. Loved the corn brulee and crab cakes. The oyster tacos were meh. Scallops amazing. Spot prawns and linguini very good. But as the waiter correctly noted not much prawn meat. So fair on that point. Pork chop also great. Wagyu cooked less than requested. One of our party said same in a previous visit. Service was ok. Not terrible but not at level of pre remodel / covid when Montrio was always on point Particularly noticeable was the refusal to seat table until 5th if 5 arrived. Then, squeezed into a 4 top with an extra setting. We ordered multiple apps and there really wasn't room for them. Prices are high enough that we felt this was not acceptable. Overall spent over $600 for 5 people before tip and we didn't even get an appropriately sized table. I'll certainly return, but at this level of restaurant hope more on point next time.
We love having dinner at Montrio Bistro whenever we're in Monterey. Food is great and service is always excellent. Highly recommend.
Great restaurant in Monterey with excellent service and very good food with a great wine selection and fantastic dessert.
Overall positive experience. Caesar salad with quinoa was fun and tasty; scallops with risotto entree was delicious; and salmon special was perfectly cooked. Butterscotch budino was also wonderful. Service was attentive, efficient, and accurate. As someone else mentioned in comments, the one drawback was multiple gnats that were bothersome during inside dining, perhaps coming from the potted plants. Management needs to look into this. We would definitely recommend but would suggest seating away from the plants.

Our dinner for a special anniversary was unexceptional and disappointing. The service was impeccable, and our appetizer of crabcakes was delicious. However, the main courses that followed were unexceptional and expensive. We had the duck and the cioppino, both were lacking, on the plain side with no pizzazz. We were prepared for an exceptional experience at a highly rated restaurant.
The service was okay — the staff was polite but unfortunately, the food just didn't live up to expectations. Everything was a bit underwhelming in flavor and presentation. It wasn't terrible, but definitely not something I'd go back for.
Food was spotty. Scallops were very good, but could have done same at home. Prawns a mess- too much acid in the pesto on prawns, too much garlic in pasta sauce. Mixed salad out of balance with pickled apples.
The food was too sweet for our tastes. Some items were delicious(appetizer). The drinks were excellent. The salmon was too expensive and not cooked as I asked. The prices are too high. The prices are close to Michelin restaurants but the food quality isn't there.
I visit Monterey yearly. I try to get to Montorio every year. The food is always very good. The atmosphere is a casual classy vibe. I had eaten at the jazz festival earlier and just wanted something solid to eat. Tonight I had crab cakes and the tomatoes/ Burrata in a pesto sauce. Both were lovely and just what I needed. I will always be back. My only con for the evening was our waitress. I realize she was busy as it appeared the restaurant was short staffed. Once she finally came over to our table(15minutes), she seemed to be rushing us to order. I would have appreciated not being rushed and made to feel as if we were taking up space in a not so very busy restaurant.
