Excellent tableside Caesar. Excellent filet mignon. Service and drinks of high caliber. Will definitely come back.
We have dined many years during Car Week....last night was a disaster... 6:30 reservation, seated by 7:00, ordered 7:15, food arrived at 8:30!π€¬ Persons seated long after us were served way before our party. This dining experience was the worse we have ever experienced. So sad this happened...will think twice before we return during Car Week, which has been a tradition in past years!
The Whaling Station has been an annual ritual for my wife and I for 10+ years when we come for car week. Every year they improve on "excellent". Paul, our server, was a msterpiece of wisdom the and perfect timing. This year's perfection included: Super cold martinis Beef carpaccio Paul's tableside prepares Caesar salad (literally the best we've ever had anywhere. Filet medium rare Onion rings (crazy light, thick cut) Baconized creamed spinach Pavlova (delicious super fresh and airy dessert) Our own cabernet. And oh yes, God willing we'll be back next year!
An absolutely amazing dinner ! I enjoy ordering alot of different items to have a taste of everything !
Had dinner for my 53rd birthday, party of one. I ordered the escargot, calamari, and the lobster with mashed potatoes and spinach. They gave me a dessert, topped with fresh strawberries and kiwi. The food and service was good. I also had a raspberry lemon drop from the bar. The restaurant was recommended by my eBike tour guide earlier that day.
The food is good, the service is excellent and there is just a very cool old-fashioned steakhouse vibe going on.
We sat at the bar for happy hour and dinner. Well prepared food and the drinks are outstanding.
We love the restaurant Love the food but it did tend to get a little noisy. We'll be back though!
Went with very high expectations from recommendations. Couldn't wait to have a great lobster tail. VERY, VERY disappointed. Wife and I I both had tails, both were βslightly mushyβ, otherwise not crisp and sweet. We were offered to substitute escalope potato's for mashed. $16 charge was on bill for two huge dishes. Take one back. Waiter Paul said, no worries, it comes with the meal. $8/each Maybe it was a bad day. I will give it one more try.
Celebrated our wedding night at Whaling Station after tying the knot on the Pacific Grove beach, and what a rollercoaster of an evening it was. We came specifically hunting for gluten-free options and top-notch steak β and honestly, this place delivered on half that promise spectacularly.
Started with fresh oysters that were absolutely pristine, though I was genuinely shocked they don't serve mignonette. Even when we asked, they just shrugged. The escargot was a complete disaster β weird texture, off flavors β and we had to send it back without hesitation.
But then the steaks arrived, and wow. My wife's Creekstone ribeye special ($88) was hands down one of the best cuts I've experienced at any steakhouse. Perfectly marbled, flawlessly cooked, and while the accompaniments were simple β just potatoes, spinach, and crispy onions β the quality spoke for itself. My prime rib was equally impressive, tender and juicy with excellent jus and horseradish. Those crispy onions on the mashed potatoes were a brilliant textural contrast.
The evening took a serious turn when they served my celiac mother-in-law breadcrumbs despite our explicit warnings about gluten. She took a bite thinking it was safe, and it made her genuinely ill. Completely unacceptable for a restaurant at this price point.
They did redeem themselves slightly with a complimentary wedding Pavlova that was divine β light as angel food cake with perfect textures throughout.
Service was attentive and accommodating overall, but that gluten cross-contamination was a major failure. The steaks are legitimately exceptional, but the price point feels steep for what you're getting. Still, those ribeye and prime rib were restaurant magic.ββββββββββββββββ

We visited for my Dad's 86th birthday. We had a great time with wonderful food and very attentive service. It made a special evening a success
Our go to steakhouse when we visit Monterey. The food is consistently spectacular. This visit westarted with fresh oysters that were sweet and plump with ocean flavor. For the mains, we had the Cowboy Steak, bone in ribeye, done to perfection. The other is the mahi mahi with crab risotto. Their crab risotto could and should be it's own dish. Super delicious! Finished off the evening with their creme brulle, cappuccino, and an Irish coffee. Great atmosphere curated by Paul and Mecedes. From the moment we walked in by a welcoming hostess greeting, our night was spectacular!
Amazing Experience at Whaling Station Steakhouse!
From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The food was absolutely top-notch β the steak was cooked to perfection, full of flavor, and paired wonderfully with the drinks.
A special shoutout to Jermar, the bartender, who truly made our night. His attention to detail, friendly service, and excellent drink recommendations made us feel well taken care of.
If youβre looking for a place with great food, a welcoming vibe, and outstanding service, Whaling Station Steakhouse is it.
Definitely recommend!
The food and service was excellent! I plan on eating here again next time I visit Monterey
Delicious food. They really know how to cook a steak! Lots of non-steak options as well. The Pavlova was one of the best and lightest desserts I have ever had. Very attentive and knowledgeable servers. 10/10 recommend.
