We both had the cesaer salad, mine with bay shrimp. I supposedly had the 'large' but it was the same size as my wife's 🤔 My guess is i paid double ($24 vs. $12) for the bay shrimp? Have to say it was a lot of shrimp (and tasty), but the salad itself was a bit pedestrian. Honestly I would like to give it 3.5 🌟 for the food since it is not bad, just not a raving fan. Service was very good and quick so that helps the overall rating.

The new place in Castroville is not as close to the ocean as the Moss Landing location, but there is outdoor seating and fresh fish for dining or shopping. There's more parking and right in the middle of the main street, which makes it convenient to get in and out plus get in some shopping. Menu hasn't changed and food is just as fresh. Nice place to stop for a bite and fill the belly with good food.

Phil's never disappoints. Take a look at these bluepoints and tell me you can pass these up.

New post: I am updating this post because we gave it another try. Still disappointed. Not one other patron in the restaurant. No one was at the front counter so we had to wait. They lost their liquor license. The clam chowder was ok.
The oysters were good.
Old Post: Disappointed. I miss the old Phil's in Moss Landing. The food is still good, but they must not have the same popularity as when they were on the beach. They raised prices a lot. A dozen oysters were $50. They have moved their fish market to a truck in the parking lot so maybe next time we'll get our fish there. A dozen oysters are $16 from the truck.

Was looking forward to the highly rated cioppino. Was disappointed! Would not order again. The whole experience was disappointing. The presentation, the (lack of) service, quality of food just wasn’t what was expected. Some have said the old Phil’s was much better.

The seafood restaurant I saved for two years before visiting
We ordered the most famous one
Seafood Cioppino $31.95
Full of seafood and rich tomato soup base, you can understand why it has more than 7,000 reviews on Google Map!

Salmon Sandwich $23.95
Clam Chowder $7.95

If you don’t have a deep memory for these two items, you can pass

I just came back from Boston and Washington DC. The seafood on the east coast feels fresher than that on the west coast. I ate a lot of oysters and lobsters on this trip?

New location for 2 years! Its been a while since I was in the area.

Food is still great, huge menu - honestly there is something for everyone.

We had:

Clam Chowder
Fish & Chips
Cioppino
Fried Calamari
Green/Dinner Salad

Currently they are not serving any alcoholic beverages that's okay for us!

Great service !

Great food at a reasonable (California) price. The Cioppino is famous and deserves the fame. A good balance on the sauce is appreciated. They does not skimp on the seafood and you will have plenty to fill you up. Also tried their grilled sea bass and it was also excellent. The grilling was just perfect.
The only underwhelming thing was clam chowder. It's not terrible but it's not something that will blow your socks off.
The services fast you just order at the front counter and they bring your food to the table pretty quickly.
Bonus fact: there are additional sitting space in the building next to it. From there to sell fish (get some if you like)

What a shame. Phil's left Moss Landing and is now in downtown Castroville. A mere shadow of its former self. It's just not the same as being located next to the docks of real fishing boats.
