The dinner that I had must've been an aberration because if they were all like this, they wouldn't keep their Michelin status. I had high expectations for dinner here, but 30 minute gaps between some courses in the set menu became unbearable. The experience wasn't worth a 3.5 hour dinner. I thought it was just me, but when I've discussed with coworkers, some have had similar experiences. It's nice to have a restaurant of the status so close by and I wish I could feel excited about going there more but it just takes one bad experience to ruin that idea.

Came here to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Dishes are very well composed, balanced, and executed. Flavors are very much European inspired, but with nice inventive touches to keep things interesting! The squab dish was the highlight for me - perfectly mid-rare without being too gamey in flavor. My wife’s favorite was the octopus, served with a broth and pepper oil - fresh, bright flavors and texture had a nice bite.
Service was very warm, welcoming and attentive.
Very deserving of its 1 Michelin star, and is a prime example of that, even when compared with the more difficult European standards.

Thank YOU for making my wife's birthday so celebrating with your wonderful servers. The food is excellent, the service is beyond excellent. We will be back soon.
The setting was cozy and quiet, being in small victorian rooms each accommodating only a few tables. The food was great as expected, but praises go to the staff who were treated us royally. There was one issue with a plate, but the maître d' bent over backwards to make things right. We really appreciate it. George personally came around and greeted each table and that made the experience special.
We had high expectations for our dinner at Chez TJ. First the positives - the staff were great and courteous and service was prompt. We got seated promptly and service started fairly quickly. We signed up for the 4 course dinner and got wines by the glass vs opting for the wine pairing. While there was an extensive wine list, wines by the glass selection were limited and not great. The food was the real let down. As vegetarians we found the choices to be super random and not tasty at all. The restaurant offered an additional entree as we were not satisfied with the prior option. This was better but not great. The desserts were minuscule and very ordinary. We've eaten at several fine dining restaurants in the Bay Area, including at this restaurant several years ago and this particular meal and experience was very sub par. Not worth the $$$$ at all IMO. My wife and I both left very disappointed 😔
A truly impressive accomplishment of a meal: food, presentation, service, environment were all exemplary. Truly a treat, and well worthy of the Michelin star (bordering on 2, imho). We'd been slightly disappointed at Chez TJ a few times in the distant past, but decided to give it another go. It's transformed: this time, none of our prior hiccups recurred. The food was sublime, with a full range from subtlety to appropriately vibrant flavors. The service (especially from Ted, the sommelier) was absolutely fantastic. We requested a couple of accommodations (one food, one wine); both were handled extremely gracefully, and we very much enjoyed the result. Highly recommended. We'll be back!
This was I believe our fourth meal at Chez TJ during Chef Stan's tenure and the best one so far (the others have been good but this one was spectacular). I particularly appreciated how much more produce was used than on previous visits. Everything was delicious!
The service was wonderful. Food should be closed to 5 stars. It is a great restaurant to visit again.
Great fine dining experience. Subtle taste experiences and friendly service, not pretentious.

The food and service were exceptional. Special Kudos to the Sommelier Ted Merkel for outstanding knowledge of the wines, helpfulness and in general creating a very special dining experience.
The experience at this restaurant is always so magical for us. We come every year at least once and in September, especially the weather is perfect. The food is plentiful and beautifully plated and perfectly designed with a mixture of layered flavors. You will be arguing with each other, which was the best and some you just want to lick the plate or have them bring more before you go onto the next Ineri Delight as the next course. The service is always so great. There must've been five people working with us all wonderfully conversational and excellent service. I highly recommended, yes it's expensive but as a celebration it can't be beat.
Truly a dinner we will always remember. Spectacular food, wonderful service, highest marks for a wonderful evening.
Great dining experience, great service, great food, will definitely recommend and visit again
Food was great. Every dish, every bite had unique and multiple flavors. Wine pairing can use a slight higher portion but they go well with the food. Service is great with friendly staff. Pace of each dish was great also. Ted was the best and most memorable as he was very nice, patient when my wife asked questions about the food. He even gave us some live plants from the garden that was used in the dishes which is a cool experience!
