“Passage to India Bakery is a hidden gem in the Bay Area! They have a large variety of freshly baked breads and an impressive selection of Indian sweets. I originally went for sweets but was pleasantly surprised by their wide range of options. The service is friendly and efficient — definitely a place worth visiting!”

We recently visited this restaurant with family, and while there were a few things we enjoyed, there’s definitely room for improvement.
The ambience wasn’t great,it felt quite hot inside, and the tables weren’t very comfortable. The interior looked old and outdated, which took away from the overall vibe.
When it came to food, the starters were disappointing, and there was a delay in refilling , which was a bit frustrating. On a positive note, the main course was good, and the pizza and burgers were a big hit with the kids.
Overall, the place has potential, especially for families, but it would really benefit from improvements in both interior and service.

Very Disappointed with the Experience
I visited Passage to India for their dosa night, and it was a complete letdown. The food lacked any real taste or quality. To make things worse, a few of the idlis felt like they were stale and not freshly made. The restaurant was completely empty, which says a lot about the overall experience. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone—not even if they were offering free food. Definitely not going back.

This place is really a good steal. We went here for dinner, and the owner, I believe an elderly lady, was extremely kind to us. They were running some specials for Holi with an additional menu, and even though it was a few days past Holi, she let us choose from that. The food took some time, but it was all served piping hot, and the taste was excellent. They also have a bakery attached to it, and the pastries were also good, and we did have some takeout. Overall would definitely recommend this restaurant in Mountain View.

Extremely slow service, long wait time even when they are not busy. If you ask how long it will take they would just make up a number and tell you to wait.

A Hidden Gem with a Heart: Passage to India – Mountain View
Nestled in the charming old downtown of Mountain View, Passage to India is truly one of the Bay Area's oldest culinary gems. And with their newly introduced weekend buffet, they’ve elevated the experience to an entirely new level.
This is not your average buffet—it’s one of the most expansive and thoughtfully curated spreads I’ve seen in recent times. From the moment you step in, the aroma and variety draw you in. It starts with a delightful chaat corner featuring in-house made papdi and golgappas, followed by a comforting tomato soup, rich pav bhaji (with butter-slicked, house-baked pav that’s simply irresistible), and even home-style burgers that transported me back to my school canteen days. The made-from-scratch pizza base and thin, street-style Indo-Chinese noodles were spot on. Crispy Gobi Manchurian, samosas, spring rolls, desi pasta, and cutlets rounded out the starters beautifully.
The main course was just as soulful—daal fry, the most divine malai kofta I’ve had in a long time, bhindi masala, and a khoya paneer that tasted like something straight out of mom’s kitchen. Simple, honest, and made with love.
And the desserts? All made in-house! From plum and chocolate cakes to eggless mousse, naan-khatai, kheer, halwa, and even a birthday cake—each one felt like it belonged at a family celebration.
What makes this place even more special is the warmth behind the food. I had the pleasure of meeting the owners—a sweet uncle and aunty duo. Aunty, who personally supervises the kitchen, is truly the heart of this restaurant. Her passion and love for cooking shine in every dish.
While the restaurant’s look may feel rustic, the food speaks volumes. Passage to India isn’t just about dining—it’s about nostalgia, heart, and real Indian flavors. And don’t miss their bakery section either—puffs, pastries, cakes, and more await.
Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for soulful, authentic Indian food served with love.

I ate social distancing platter here which was very tasty just like the food at home. The aunty owner of the restaurant was very nice and so was the owner's daughter. Both of them asked me repeatedly how the food was. It felt as if my mother was asking me about the food. It felt very good after eating food here.

Do not expect Chicken tikka kebap to be Indian style! It's just roasted chicken. Quantity is good for the price, taste is not typical!

The food is really tasty, authentic north Indian food. We have been going to this place for several years and food has been consistently good each time.

After seeing the extensive menu in an online ad, decided to try the dinner buffet here. I was mind blown by the variety and flavor of all the dishes. Usually with such a large menu the expectation is usually that not all the menu items will be good but every single thing was amazing. There was not a single thing I didn't enjoy. Few of my favorite dishes included : pani puri - the water was super flavorful, the beetroot lollipop was my absolute favorite - just melted in the mouth, mini samosas were great, the mini pizza was reminiscent of the pizzas you get at a local Indian Cafe, the sambhar was perfectly seasoned - it was so comforting & tasty along with the chutneys & the South Indian options, the malai kofta was so rich n creamy. These are probably only half the items from the buffet menu. Was so full by just trying a small portion of each dish. The dessert spread was also amazing, the desserts being very flavorful and not overly sweet. Finished it off with some chai. Would definitely keep coming back!
