A hidden gem in Calaveras County. The food is fresh and made in house. Not to mention really delicious!! Will be going back for Sunday brunch, I'm told it's exceptional.

We saw this place on our way though Murphys while we waited for our time slot at Mercer Caverns. Honestly its a great BBQ place, the meats were perfectly spiced, not too much not too little. The helpings were very generous, my husband got a 1lb each of pulled pork & chicken, we ate lunch here and still had left overs for dinner. We also got a large portion on Mac & cheese for our kids, they both ate it and there was still plenty after they ate too. That Mac & Cheese is BOMB! Seriously sooo damn good. I also for myself got the tangy coleslaw, I used to not be a big fan of coleslaw but I'm trying to get back into it and again, this is the best I've ever had.

brisket was tasty but all the sides were generic and mediocre (slaw, beans, and mac&cheese)

My hubby and I were visiting Murphys today and wanted to stop for a bite to eat. We came across this place called Gypsy BBQ and decided to give it a try. To start, Everyone working there was really nice and friendly , that's always a plus. So our first impression upon entering was great. I ordered the tri tip and my husband ordered the pulled pork sandwich. My tri tip came with coleslaw and baked beans which I substituted with potato salad. To drink I had hibiscus lemonade...yum! Everything was soooo delicious! My tri tip was tender, had a perfectly smoked flavor and the BBQ sauce was amazing, tangy with just the right amount of kick! The coleslaw was fresh and not drowning in mayonnaise which I am accustomed to and the potato salad was made with red potatoes and was simple yet delicious and just the right amount. I would say the only thing missing from my meal was maybe a piece of bread, that would've made it the perfect meal. I was full but not stuffed. I honestly loved it and will definitely go back again. I would recommend this place to my family and friends with no hesitation.

This particular day was the one year anniversary and just like 1 year ago this food was still excellent. The staff was great and their suggestions were amazing.. They have a small outdoor setting and it was a perfect day to sit out there after after A-day long wine event in the town of Murphy's across the street. It's not difficult to find this location because they are on the the same land, with a gas station next to it. Just follow the smoke from the outdoor BBQ smoker and you will be guided to this location.....

I love the idea of this place - they had me at Gypsy! Lol we ordered a 2-meat platter - beef brisket, pulled pork, chicken or tri-tip. We did the tri-tip and pulled pork. The meats were very tasty, but I was a little disappointed in the portion size which I felt was a bit small for the price. It comes dry with a side of barbecue sauce, and a single portion of beans and coleslaw. No bread. The sauce was very interesting - very tomatoey. Don't get me wrong, it was delicious, but all I could think was how much better it would be on an angel hair pasta or ravioli. Potato salad was a bit bland but the coleslaw was a pleasant surprise. On a scale of 1 to 10, my husband hates coleslaw, but he LOVED this! So I can't give it a higher rating than that! LOL The beans were good, on the sweet side. I have to say however, my favorite thing on the plate was the bright pink pickled onions! They were absolutely delicious! The tissue-thin sliced pickles were also quite a treat.Be warned: there is no indoor dining here and seating is very limited. They have big barrel tables with tall seats, which is a challenge for hobbits such as myself. But I found the tables were high enough that I could eat standing as well. The smoker is right out in front, so you will be able to get good and hungry before the food arrive!

Best bbq! Everything was amazing, my favorite other than the ribs was the spoon corn jalapeño bread! Can’t wait to go back and try more!

We loved everything about this place! The owner was so incredibly nice! We didn't see a place to sit on the patio but right away she rounded up a table and chairs for us. She was super helpful with everything and gave us the best service! The food was incredible! I had the bahn mi bbq sandwich. It was flavorful and had tender pulled pork with fresh pickled vegetables, homemade pickles and an Asian pesto! My husband had the tri-tip sandwich which also had amazing tri-tip and a fresh coleslaw. The homemade chips and dip were also very good! They were crispy and had just the right amount of salt! The dip and mac n cheese were great too! I highly recommend this place and will definitely be coming back when we're in town next!

Stopped here on the way home from Bear Valley this past weekend. The food was amazing, and the portions where very generous. The brisket grilled cheese sandwich special was particularly amazing.I will 100% be stopping here again when I am in the area, and recommend you do as well.

we've been going to Gypsy for over a year now (since they've opened) & have had a few hiccups with quality of food, items missing , not full containers, etc.. but our on superbowl sunday was very underwelming. The menu looked fantastic, for $70 (tax & tip) for two.. all I had to do is heat it up.. I thought I would give it a try. Popcorn. STALE as all get out. tossed it in the garb. condiments for EVERYTHING outside of their containers were unmarked so did not know what went with what, what it was for, etc.. homemade chips were good nachos, I added alot of shredded cheese of my own, otherwise they would have been very very dry. chicken wings were rubbery and I would expect a bbq place to have "fall of the bone" chicken. the seasoning was good. the sauce that I THINK was with it, was very hot, but good if you like it hot ! sliders, were sliders. there was no potato salad included. very small container 1/2 filled with slaw instead. Chili would have had good flavor had it cooked for a while. tasted as if the seasoning had been put in last minute. Pull apart Pizza was delicious, fresh & the sauce was yummy! lastly, the "surprise" dessert was two heartshape plain cookies , very hard, confused as to whether there was another condiment somewhere that we should have used to decorate :) Very Very nice owner... a few great dishes... really bummed about the package. :(

Wow! Got the Super Bowl package. We had the Pork Sliders for lunch (just couldn’t wait until game time). The Coleslaw and Potato Salad didn’t make the photo, but loved it.

We finally ate here today. It was amazing! Great homemade chips and the veggie sandwich was one of the best I've ever had (and thanks so much for having a veggie option), all with friendly service. We'll for sure be back.

Happy New Year!

Yummy food. Meat fell off the ribs. Everything was delish. And they give you 2 sauces: spicy and sweet. Highly recommend. Plus one of the extremely few places we visited in Murphys where everyone was masked! Bravo!
