After coming to this place for almost 30 years, yes that's right 30 years the last few times the food was not good...changed all the time, not consistent most of the times but the final time turned me off totally. Had the same taco salad that I have every week....The lettuce was dripping in water, ran into the shell that became mush and had to look to find the shredded beef. Chips were horrible, not like used to be, not home made as in the past., thick and cold and sauce was tomato paste of soup out of a can. This place has really fallen down and was always a favorite place to take friends and family. No longer the same quality. Too bad and even with the owner now in presence not same food. Must have new cooks that she isn't training!

It's a Mexican restaurant but with a large selection of non Mexican entrees like a grilled ham and cheese or a patty melt. The food is fine but I've had better versions of everything from other restaurants and the prices are very steep compared to similar restaurants. For example, the small albondigas soup for nine dollars had one albondiga (meatball) in it. The Chili Colorado burrito didn't have much seasoning or flavor in the meat. The service is always friendly. Overall, the experience is meh but the bill is whoa!

This was our third time having Paula as our server and each experience is worse than the last , she’s incredibly rude and dismissive it’s clearly all about money for her. The only one who helped us properly, was the young lady with piercings, if not for her we would not be coming back.

Used to eat here very often when it was Carnitas Express. Have been here 2 times since business changed. Not at all what previous restaurant was. We won’t be returning.

I eat there frequently and wife and I order different things. Tonight she wasn't too hungry so she ordered a taco and rice and beans. Pretty simple. The waitress brought the taco but forgot the rice and beans. I told her and she promptly brought them out. Here's the problem. They charged me $10 for the rice and beans! Not only should it have come with the meal as requested but their cost couldn't have been more than ten cents! I realize that prices have gone up but this was a pure ripoff.

We have been coming here for years. There has been a change of ownership but the place is still going strong. Amazing service! Request Maria you won’t be disappointed! She’s an amazing server. Very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. I can’t tell you how much I love their guacamole, shredded beef tacos, and the Mexican candy margarita!

This place used to be our go to. Unfortunately we left before our server ever greeted us. After going to the bar to get some drinks on the way the gentleman came to take our order.

Unfortunately on the new menu you can no longer have rice and beans as a side on the “non-Mexican” breakfast plates.

That’s correct - if you order bacon and eggs…no beans for you!

This all after waiting 10 minutes and never seeing a server.

While we’ve been going here for years (under the previous ownership) we won’t be going back.

Such a shame!

Please read the reviews first...I wish I had. If I could give the food zero stars I would, it was that gross. I only took one bite of my chile relleno because it had a disgusting aftertaste and I had to drench my shredded beef taco in salsa to get some flavor. This is bland, Midwest/Pacific Northwest-tier Mexican food at best. The staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was nice. Do not recommend it; it's a stain on California Mexican food.

Sadly, a very disappointing experience today. Food took forever to arrive and when it did, it was obvious it had been sitting for a long time under the heat lamps. Beans and rice were dry and flavorless. We had to ask 3x for silverware while our food became cold . Poor service and both our meals were not worth the $18.95 proceed tag. Will not go again. Poor service, bad food and the whole place needs a good cleaning and new paint.

I searched for months to find my regular, Taco Tuesday place. And this is it! Great food and even better service!

Today we ordered take out tacos. Our shredded beef tacos and chicken hard shell tacos were horrible. The waitress told us upon paying with a gift card the restaurant was under new management and would not take our card because it would go to the previous owner. This restaurant is not Carnitas Express , it's now La Protrona Mexican Kitchen. You're better off going to Carnitas Express in Menifee. We will not come back to this restaurant.
