A must-visit if you're in town.
Classic diner style breakfast
It's a bakery with a café on the side. I visited for the first time to pick up a cake and walked in to find a dining area. I decided to try it. It's not very big. The service was ok.
Had breakfast and it was really, really good. Their bakery is amazing!!
The cinnamon French toast is so nasty and so wet in the middle from the fake egg yolk they use. Would not recommend. Service is not good . Waiter at by the kitchen is rude .
Very busy place for breakfast so as soon as you arrive put your name on the list, although it is quick to go to the table or you can eat at the bar, where in my experience it was faster. Having little staff to take care of several tables, they do their job but neglect small details such as taking time to serve coffee or placing your order. The food is generally abundant and rich, not delicious, but it is a pleasant place in town where they stop before starting a tasting in the vineyards. The muffins are made daily and are served with margarine, in my taste butter would be better but it is personal.

A friend took me here while I was visiting and I asked to make it the breakfast on my departure day. Classic diner style, amazing country-cooking in a friendly atmosphere.

For all those who enjoy bakeries and local diners, Butter Cream on Jefferson is the place.
Yes, the original owners are gone, but this place still has the local vibe.
Good hearty breakfast menu, excellent service and very down to earth people. If you want to experience a bit of authentic regular everyday Napa, stop in at Butter Cream.
I had the short stack fresh blueberry pancakes with a perfectly poached egg and two strips of crispy delicious bacon. Everything was, is consistent and most of all you feel welcome.
I say this to just about everyone when I talk about Napa. If it wasn’t for old Mt. George in the distance, I would know I was in Napa. That’s how much Napa has changed.
Yet I have to say that going into Butter Cream Bakery & Diner is perhaps the only place that I recognize as the Napa I knew. It’s still Butter Cream and it’s friendly, pleasant with good service and food.
Donut fans, Butter Cream has some of the best. Try the Bacon-Maple. It’s surprisingly good and it’s an original!
Place gets busy between 8 AM and 10 AM. Limited seats. And donuts go fast, so stop in early.
Parking: There’s parking in back, off of Jefferson Street.

Ultimately, this is a great place to go eat, pick up pastries, and enjoy a leisurely experience. The place is usually busy, we had a 15 minute wait for a table at 11:00 am. You can put your name down to get a table, or you can go to the counter and sit where there are openings. When we were there, only single openings at the counter.
After we were seated, waited on and served beverages, it was another 20 minutes to get to our order. It seemed there was one cook for the whole place: so the pace was not very fast. The servers were attentive and helpful: the pace was just not too fast.
The food was well prepared, delicious even. We had the burger and fries. It was all good. So, drop in and sit a spell (it will take some time) but the food is worth a trip back.
Update: I made the trip back. Met a friend for lunch and I had to pick up some pastries to bring home to the family. Today I had the chili, it was warm, spicy, and hit the spot. The folks were friendly, and I struck up conversations with a couple of different people. The atmosphere was relaxed and the food was great. I have to recommend the apple fritter as a take home as well as the bear claw. All of their pastries are wonderful. This place is becoming a regular spot for me. Come check it out.
