This is a classic old timey Asian restaurant in a classic old timey location. At 5:30 we had the place to ourselves and were served promptly. The service was excellent as was the food. They do a lot of take out so don't get discouraged if the lobby is jammed. We got the classic dinner for two and it was just that. The soup and spring rolls were excellent. We ate heartily but still could not finish the main plates. It was about half the price of other "sit down" dining options.

Fred is definitely not the nicest person but I think he kind of goes with the vibe of this place. I absolutely love the eggplant. It's one of my favorites, but they definitely do close early and will not be flexible so make sure you're on time. It's a very useful area and there's lots of bars and makes for a good dinner before you go out. I believe the bar next-door serves the food from Fred's.

We got orange chicken, chow mein, and fried rice and everything was delicious. The staff was friendly and very attentive. Would definitely go back when in the area. Prices were good for the portions.

If you want a traditional experience with AMAZING Chinese food. This is it! Fred and his family are a Nevada county institution. We love the chicken chow mein but you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu!

WARNING - The menu has a "Gluten Special" option, the owner does not know the difference between gluten and vegan. I am severely sensitive to gluten and haven't gluten in over a year. After ordering what we believed to be a gluten free dinner (because it said gluten special) we realized that the beef he served us had a funny texture. When we asked what it was, he said it was imitation beef. Then we made the connection that everything we were served was vegetarian/vegan - NOT GLUTEN FREE. This is an awful mistake to make, especially for people who are actually gluten free.
