Y’all ever have a hippy burrito before? Brown rice and black beans and lacking in grease and cheese? It is not even close to the experience you get from an authentic burrito but yet somehow, it’s still kind of good??
That’s what this ramen is. They are not purporting to be authentic, but if you want something healthier, filled with local meat and produce, chewy yummy noodles and still absolutely tasty in its own right (with added Tamari) then you should absolutely eat here.

So I ordered the Sweet and Spicy chicken for 17$ and my wife ordered the salad for 20$ at dinner time. She also asked for extra dressing which cost extra and we didn't get the extra dressing! Pretty upsetting! I was really impressed with the flavor of the food but the amount of chicken I got for 17$ and only chicken with a lemon was pretty ridiculous. Pictures below will show that the salad for 26$ is a way better deal then the 10 pieces of chicken I got by itself but not by much! Also they have the restaurant spilt up in 2 different areas, one for breakfast and lunch and another for dinner. They didn't have a sign saying that's how it works. I was pretty upset when I saw my small amount of chicken by itself and soooooooo expensive! I DON'T RECOMMEND GOING THERE EVER!

The broccoli in my soup was old and tasted bad. The eggs missed the mark for sure and the ramen had low taste
Great food and service

Love this place. Second year in a row visiting & I gotta say that while their Annex Ramen is delicious, what really takes the cake for me is their Chicken Karaage. Yum! Crispy, GF, organic— that alone is unique (haven’t found another one in California that offers that). The white sauce that accompanies is delicious. I love it with lemon squeezed onto it. Highly recommend! And yes- for our final night this stay we got an order for me and another order for my son. P.S. I asked to sample their homemade green Sriracha and it was SO tasty!! 👌🏽

I see now how this happened (I missed it in the sea of customization options), but somehow, I ordered Ramen without selecting a type of noodles (ordered via your Square online ordering platform). What I really wish had happened was:
1.) The noodle option on your Square site was higher up on the list of customizations (it would've been much harder to miss)
2.) The noodle option on the Square site wasn't an optional question, especially when one of the options quite literally is "no noodles", so it would've forced me to say I wanted Ramen without noodles
3.) Someone at pickup had just logically thought to possibly double check that we made sure we were getting Ramen, without noodles, and if that's not what we intended to order, which noodles did we want?
Again, I'll totally accept fault here for not specifying which noodles, but it really left me thinking that this can't be the first time someone's done this, no? If it is, welp, I'm sure it won't be the last!
Sincerely, a sad person with noodle-less Ramen

Got some Ramen the other day. It was like $100 for a family of 5. I consider that to be expensive, which isn’t inherently bad. But the quality didn’t justify the price.I’m not a connoisseur of Japanese cuisine. But I did live in Japan for 2 years and ate a lot of ramen there. These offerings don’t taste like Japanese ramen and, frankly, I didn’t think it tasted very good at all.The girl at the counter was also rude and off putting. So ultimately I won’t be patronizing the place again and would recommend others to try somewhere else.

Modestly tucked into its intimate space in the Gold Rush town of Nevada City, the Heartwood Annex is a gem of a restaurant. Its simple menu of ramen entrees and side dishes is made of the finest and freshest ingredients, its noodles are hand-made, and its rich broth is wonderfully and subtly seasoned. The result is a model of how healthy and nutritious food can be fashioned into a satisfying and satisfyingly pleasurable meal. This is obviously a labor of love. High points to its staff; long may they prosper and provide fine and honest food to the Sierra foothills.
Vegetarian options: Vegan options also available.

I never leave reviews, and am only doing so to make up for those silly negative reviews that the annex doesn’t deserve. Heartwood is one of the few places I ever eat out - the food is delicious and the service is great!
Awesome, best soup/ pho ever!
I give them two stars because the food isn't bad, but they get a zero for customer service. Every time I go there the women at the cash register is unfriendly. Last time she messed up my order and overcharged me to fix my order. I'm a local and wanted to come to the Annex regularly, but I don't feel welcomed there unfortunately.
