This place was very nice on a warm day, the shade was great. It is also dog friendly. The food was good when we finally got it, 30min after we ordered. My husband pretty much was the waiter, got our menus and waters and took the order. I noticed the other workers didn’t seem to know what to do with a bottle of champagne, just pretty much gave it to the people that ordered it. I’m not sure what this restaurants deal is but the food was good 🤷♀️

The outdoor seating area is super cute and dog-friendly, which we loved. That said, the experience wasn’t the best. The staff seemed really overwhelmed—probably because they were short-staffed—and no one came to clean our table after the previous guests, even after we asked. We waited over an hour for our burgers, and when they finally came out, they were way too salty. Totally understand they were doing their best, but overall, it just wasn’t a great visit.

Amazing !
It’s a French place managed by a very kind and friendly French lady. The choice is very good. A lot of tastes and genuine stuff. If I were to complain, it would be their very generous portion. Apparently others eat everything. I couldn’t.
Thank you for the great experience.

Such good breakfast! Mmm, I’m full but want to eat more! Rich and made with care. I love the patio under the large, beautiful tree. The folks running this restaurant are warm and friendly, almost stereotypically French cooks.
My family loves this place! Just enjoyed a Mother’s Day brunch and everything was excellent. All the food is so quality and the vibe is very casual and friendly. When the weather is right, sitting on the lovely patio makes it even more enjoyable. Wish I’d taken pics of the food, but when it arrived all we were thinking of was eating it…we devoured it all. Sharing a picture of the beautiful tree that shades the patio instead.
We visited Lika’s for brunch before the Mardi Gras parade in Nevada City, and it was an experience of highs and lows. Tucked just off the main street, the café offers a quieter ambiance with lovely outdoor seating—perfect for a sunny day. While the atmosphere is laid-back and charming, be prepared to wait… a lot. Service was incredibly slow—from getting water to receiving our meals—and we weren’t greeted or seated upon arrival, which added some initial confusion. That said, once we were helped, the staff were friendly and polite.
The food itself was solid. My wife had the breakfast croissant—flaky and flavorful, though overly oily—and I had the 3-egg omelette, which was tasty but nothing particularly special. The potatoes were a standout though—crispy on the outside, soft inside, and paired with a unique mayo dip. It’s clear the kitchen takes pride in their dishes.
This is a place you go to enjoy a leisurely meal, not if you're in a rush. The vibe is relaxing, the setting is charming, and the staff genuinely care, even if they operate on a slower rhythm. Worth a visit—just make sure you have time to spare.
Good breakfast place. If a party of 15 wants to eat here, good luck getting an order in. If you order at the counter, everybody should be present, but this one person kept cutting in the line to order for their party. The person at the counter said that they didn't even have to pay beforehand for their group. I waited a long time but gave up. I guess this restaurant doesn't have catering in advance for large groups or doesn't care. Really sad to see a local restaurant not even try to serve locals. I guess it's a tourist spot now. If I ever get another meal from here, it will probably be watered down or changed for tourists. Sad to see an iconic restaurant fall so far.
Service during rush period was abominable. A party in front of me was huge with people arriving piecemeal only to add to their order at the last minute. After 20 minutes of this nonsense was then told that *my* order was going to take an extra long time. They need to have a different policy when a large group is being served… the entire party needs to be there before ordering. I walked out in disgust.
For a casual place, the food and service were exceptional. We both ordered the Pesto Grinder, Italian cold cuts. Probably the best sandwich ever, no kidding. Have not had Italian meats this good outside of an Italian New York deli. The staff were all pleasant and attentive. Highly recommend.

Today was the annual Mardi Gras parade in Nevada City and we decided to have brunch in downtown prior to the event. We were looking at Lukas yesterday but decided to come today because our reservation at the National was erroneous as they were closed today likely due to the Mardi Gras celebration.
Lika's is located of the main Street of downtown so it is a bit more quiet. It has indoor and outdoor seating. The beautiful weather made the outdoor much more attractive so this is where we sat. When we arrived we were not greeted or seated and had to ask how it works. They handed us a couple menus and told us to sit anywhere we wanted. Service here was really slow. I mean... Really slow. Over 10 minutes to get water, another 15 to have our order taken, and then a half hour to get the food to the point where I saw others who came after us receive their food before ours arrived. When I saw this I got up to ask where our food was and saw them bringing it out so said nothing.
My wife ordered the breakfast croissant which came with potatoes and I got the 3 egg omelette. Also came with potatoes. People, the food is good. Overall comment here is that the breakfast croissant is so oily, my wife had to eat it fork and knife style. The potatoes are like mashed potato balls and come with it's own special mayo dip. The omelette was good but omelettes almost everywhere are very similar and this is no different. Nothing special to make it stand out from other well made omelettes.
In the end, the atmosphere is really chill and nice. When we were served and waited on they were very friendly and polite. But this place is sssslooooww. Even when I went to pay the cashier was so relaxed. Our eating neighbor asked us if we liked the food to which we said yes and she said she has lived there for years and is obsessed with the food but you come knowing you will need to be patient.
Try it but do it when you have no plans or a lot of time to be chill.
LOVE Lika's. By far best brunch spot in town. Unique, French inspired cuisine, great atmosphere, exceptional staff, nothing not to love about this place.
Outstanding food and wonderful service. It is the type of restaurant that you want to stay at for hours, just enjoying the atmosphere and food. A delight.
