Stayed here in 2018 for 111 days while waiting for my home to be finished with construction. I’m back to stay getting out of my home due to snow storm knocking out power Place is about the same, they eliminated a wonderful morning cooked breakfast, place in disarray.
First the good: The grounds are nice and it's a pleasant though long-ish walk into downtown Nevada City. The location is mostly quiet, though the units near the freeway get a little traffic noise, but not terrible. The old rain nearby is rustic and worth having a look at. And Nevada City is fantastic! The bad: I reserved a cabin, which is the first time I did so here and I've not stayed at the NQ in over 5 years.. When I arrived they assigned me a room and gave me the card. The room was nice but later I learned it was a Chalet. 2 floors, nice size. But no WiFI and the front desk didn't seem to care. The thermostat had been set as Max and the ground floor was over 85 deg. The upstairs bedroom was in the 90s. Who does this? I opened all the windows while I unpacked and settled in. A bit more than hour hour later there was a know on my door - another guest had also be assigned my room. Then a few phones calls and after about 40 mins - all while it's getting late - I'm advised that I need to change rooms. Ok, this happens, so I re-packed, go the new keys and changed to the cabin on the very far side of the complex. The Cabin could have been nice. But it fell short in so many ways! First, the room temp was below 50 deg. and the tiny wall heater far too small for the size of the cabin - plus, the advertised gas fireplace doesn't work (and later I was informed than none of them work, despite the webpage statements). For over 2 hours the place was so very cold I had to wear shoes and a jacket! Other problems included: every faucet drips a lot (the kitchen just runs nearly full time). The kitchen sink drained so slowly that it was hard to use in anyway other than to fill a cup with water. The kitchen also has no utensils at all - no pots, pans, silverware, etc. There are functioning 2-burner elec stove top, microwave, and single-cup coffee maker. I also learned later, not stated anywhere, that there are no housekeeping services while staying - no cleaning, no towels, no fresh coffee packs, etc.
I chose this inn because I needed an accommodation for one night in NV City, and most places require a two night stay. The room smelled like smokers had stayed, the coffee pot was covered in dust as well as the packets of sugar/creamer. Handle to microwave was broken off - about 1/3 of it remaining. The toilet had mold around the water line. On the positives, carpet looked new and bed was comfortable. Room was quite large. The inn has numerous rooms and it appears that people live in some of them. Parking is plentiful. Alexander's, an upscale restaurant, is on the property but is a separate business. Bottom line: It was okay to stay one night but if I could have found another hotel, I would have gone there.
This was the worst and most terrible experience I’ve ever had at a place. The cabin was so dirty and run down. I didn’t even want to sit on the couch without putting down a blanket first. The room had a weird smell which I figured out later was from the vomit in the couch. When we notified the staff they took forever to come look and then we’re upset we even complained!! We were in the second cabin on left. Basically the furniture was worse than something you’d find on the street besides the vomit the couch was broken. The fireplace didn’t work and you wouldn’t want to touch anything in the kitchen. We ended up leaving and booking an Airbnb. Thank goodness we were able to find something with no notice. The staff was upset that we called Hotels.com and told them we wanted our money back. The whole experience almost ruined the weekend. I’m amazed that based on reviews we thought this was an ok place!
I love this place. The lobby has real terracotta tile and smells like leather. Relaxed and real vibe but everything is nice. The desk clerk said well I think we have a lot of people so the internet may be slow, if you get on it, it is what it is. But it is plenty fast.
Had a wonderful delicious brunch. It was snowing outside and the views from the restaurant were fantastic! Service was very good as well.
We came from out of town to stay here during a family gathering on a holiday weekend, when nothing else was available. On arrival, I opened the sofa bed and found only a dingy mattress cover, littered with crumbs. Behind the sofa was a wadded up used bathroom towel, and on the floor nearby, plastic wrappers, a bottle cap and other debris. There were no linens for the bed and no blankets. The corners of the downstairs bathroom floor were grungy and the rest of the place looked unclean.I told the clerk in the office, who seemed unconcerned but said she'd have someone bring linens. The young man who came handed me a pile of linens and started to walk away when I pointed out the need to clean the room. He seemed confused so I suggested he get a vacuum. He did but never picked up the garbage or used towel. In a pandemic it's hard to believe these are the cleaning standards. That sofa bed by the way was like sleeping on box spring, could barely feel the thin mattress. The heater rattled all night long. The door cards never worked, requiring a visit to the office each night when we returned to get new ones. On cold nights with a sleeping 3-year-old, this was an unwelcome inconvenience. In a tourist town like Nevada CIty, it's also hard to believe that they charge local rates but don't keep the inn up to the local standards.
We stayed here a few years back and our visit was pretty standard. I was shocked at the condition of the hotel when we returned a few years later. We got a chalet and I was horrified at how gross it was. The room smelled like dog pee, there were literally holes punched in the walls, the couch was so dirty that we couldn’t even sit on it. The bathroom had a dated and dirty toilet seat, the fire place and heat did not work. The vibes I got in this place were awful. We could not sleep the night there so we left without touching anything. Management said that we could receive a full refund and they lied and charged our card in full. I am unable to get a hold of anyone to dispute this and honestly I don’t think anyone would help me with it anyway. I received a call the day after we checked out and they asked if we had given our keys to anyone! Apparently they don’t have a tracking system for this? I told him we turned them in and he hung up on me before I could say another word. Stay far away from this place. Seriously creepy vibes going on here. You couldn’t pay me to stay here ever again.
We booked a cabin, because we wanted a Kitchen in order to cook and have dinner. But when we arrived there was absolutely nothing. No pans and pots, no places, no glasses, no silverware. I had to fight my way to get some. And I had to go and buy them myself! We are staying one week, and nobody comes to clean the room, after4 days nobody had changed both bathroom towels, I had to go and asked for some clean ones. Then we run out of toilet paper, and we had to go to the reception to get some. The room was dirty when we arrived, and when I complained, I was told, sorry but the cleaning ladies don't do a good job!! What a shame. See for yourself, the picture shows the floor under the sofa bed. They called it Enhanced Cleaning??
There’s a lot of bad reviews that had me nervous to stay. But I didn’t see any blood spatters in the wall or junkies living there. However it was a busy weekend in NV City so they had a lot of reservations and may have cleaned it up for the occasion. My “large suite” was actually a one bedroom with a pull out couch in the living room and little fridge and coffee maker. The sofa bed mattress was straight up coils and the pillows are quite large and not pliable at all. But the sheets and towels were clean and the bathroom was a nice size. My cousin said she had no hot water when she showered this morning. It was fine for me last night. The decor is sparse and screwed to the wall so it gives you that feel of a dumpier hotel. But again, it’s fine for a quick stay if you have something going on in town- this hotel is just not a destination. But I did hear they just reopened, so maybe they’ll get there someday.

I should have read the bad reviews because they are accurate. We reserved one of the cabins and when we got there at 4:30 they were still cleaning the room (check in is 3pm). The room was disappointing. The ceiling fan was CAKED with old dust and there were gross looking spots on the ceiling. There were nasty stains on the sofa, gross dripping stains on the wall, fireplace didn’t work and the blinds in the bedroom were covered in greasy dust. I do not recommend staying here. It was about $160 for the night and we couldn’t wait to leave
Very poor wifi connection and some weird vibes from some of the people that Im guessing live there.. but the front dest people were very helpful. I also appreciated the warmed toned lights in the room.
If I could give this place a NO Star I would. This place and their guest service are downright horrible. Let's start off with me and my now husband booking a Chalet a year and a half in advance for a 2-night stay after we got married (5/22/21) at a venue down the road. No problem. Called a month before (4/21) spoke to a gal who confirmed our reservation - no problem. Get a call Thursday (5/20/21) - 2 days before our wedding from I believe his name was Amahd asking if he could switch our room to a cabin. I told him No- that we had booked this Chalet a year and a half in advance for our honeymoon suite and asked if there was a problem. This gentleman replied that there was No problem and that everything would be ok for our reservation on 5/22. Now, this is concerning considering that it's 2 days before our wedding and graduation weekend (so everything else is booked up), but I'm believing this gentleman after he assured me that everything would be ok. Day of the wedding (5/22) and the day we would be checking in to start our honeymoon. I get a call at 12pm from a rather rude girl (I think her name was Emily, not 100% because I was in the middle of getting ready for my wedding) and she tells me that a family of 8 has been living in the chalet we reserved for the past month and a half - they kicked them out and the people trashed the place to the point it was uninhabitable. Now, this is the day of my wedding and the day we are supposed to check-in. I ask her what we can do and she tells me we can find another place to stay or take a downgraded queen room for a discounted price of $25 dollars off the regular price. I asked her if this was a joke and she told me No - these are my choices. So I accept it since there is nothing else we can do and have nothing else available. I call my fiancé (who was also getting ready for the wedding) and explain to him. He goes down there and speaks with the same girl in person. She again rudely tells him that there is nothing they can do, she would not give the name of the manager or comp the room for us. That night we check-in there is a different girl at the check-in window who was very apologetic as she charged us and gave us our key. The room is clean but nothing else. The blinds were destroyed, the couch was stained and the bed was minimal. The next day we go out to explore and dine. We come back to our room that afternoon and we have been locked out of the room. With our stuff still in there! We walk back up the check-in window and ask the front desk girl what is going on. This is the same gal from the night we checked in. She said that they NOW have a one-night opening in one of the chalets and that they have moved us to that room for the night. She said she was told we had been called and informed of this switch. We had not since all of our luggage was still in the downgraded queen room. Had we known of any switch in rooms we would have taken our luggage. She said the chalet is still being cleaned but she would activate our room key (for our old room) so that we could get our stuff and by the time we were done the chalet would be available. I asked her about the price difference and about getting charged for another night since all of this was on them. She told me and my now husband that everything was taken care of. This was on them since it was their mistake. I thanked her and went to get my bags. We get into the chalet and it was nice. It was a 70's feel and in need of some TLC but with COVID and places shutting down it was understandable that maybe they had not been able to get around to or afford to update. While we were there for the night we noticed the other chalets around us literally had families living there. Like planters, toys, full-on residents. It now makes sense, they must have kicked out a family because we had reserved the chalet and why the family then destroyed the chalet. The next day when we went to check out - I noticed I had been charged for the room. The same room the girl the previous night had told us was on them because of their mistake.
I don’t write very many reviews but I’m compelled to warn anybody reading this to stay away from this hotel! The rooms are disgustingly dirty, with blood spurts on the ceiling from junkies and roaches. The staff steals and half are druggies themselves. Every room has black mold And they way overcharge for what you get. This is literally a dangerous place to stay, Nevada city police are constantly driving around the parking lot. Choose this hotel and you chose poorly! Ugh, gross. They should be shut down!
I stayed at NQ a couple years ago and left a review due to how aweful our stay was. Management responded stating how they were in process of updating their rooms. Well, I noticed zero changes during my recent stay. How can Management sleep well at night knowing their property is in worse condition than staying at a Motel 6. And, how can they justify charging outrageous fees for a ran down property? People....please read other reviews about this property and make a rational decision not to throw away your hard earned money on a property where Management has truely shown its customers they don't care. I stayed again only because Management stated they were updating. BIG LIE!
