LOVE this place, love the historical and cozy atmosphere, you just want to stay forever. The food and bar menu is the stuff of top chef! Time slows down here to just relax and take it in. Live music with an incredible set was such a treat. Authentic margarita pizza, and we were lucky enough to try their cambozola burger as their menu always has something new to try ~ tantalizing and really complementary flavors without overriding the burger, loved it! Will be watching for this to pop up in the menu again!
It happened again: we just had the best meal we’ve had in town, ever. No other local restaurant compares, honestly. This isn’t your basic steak and mashed potatoes and spring salad served up by a less than enthusiastic employee. Our server was attentive and accommodating, our meals were all incredible with a sophisticated range of flavors, and the ambiance was cozy and comfortable. 10/10, will be going again.

We reserved a restaurant table but it was closed and we were parked in the entertainment area downstairs with a terrible guitar duo blasting out poor copies. There were 3 other peeps there who were friends of the “band” The pizza had nothing on it and the gnocchi had no sauce, totally dry. I wish we’d followed my first choice and gone to the Crazy Horse where pub food is a million times better than Stonehouse “refined dining “

I hate reviews that lead with complaints about service because they should focus on the food. The service was horrible, food was mediocre at BEST. Objectively…
So, the food: watermelon was basic but ok. Endive salad was also just ok, nothing to write home about. We got steaks, definitely not a $55 ribeye. It just wasn’t. Thin, scrappy ribeyes. The purée was bland. Chimichurri was good but so is Chipotle’s so I’m not going to give much credence to that. Rice and beans were super bland too, and the flatbread was just bread. No flavor. This place advertises fine dining…it just wasn’t. I was surprised…
Ok now the service. Honestly it was horrible. I’m a nice guy…this service was horrible. They seated us on the dance floor an hour before a show which was weird but would’ve been fine if it didn’t take them 15 minutes to even acknowledge us. There were two other tables and they were already done with their entrees. No excuse. Manager apologized and said it was our waiters first day, but then we got served apps with no silverware, still no drinks. Ok fine…on to entrees. As we’re eating our steaks they start clearing the stage and setting up for a show. Restaurant is silent…just us. Why take that reservation? Why seat us there with a whole two floor restaurant?
The bill was $240. We don’t drink by the way. Look…if you’re going to drop $200 on dinner, this isn’t the place. I’ve had lots of fantastic meals. I’m really not sure what people are raving about. The flavors here are very basic and unrefined, there’s nothing special about this menu, the service was garbage, and there are better options…take them.
So, that’s that. I hope whoever is reading this has a great day!

It was silent. Except for a lone pianist with the volume much too high. We glanced around at the blank faces of the other 4 people in the room. Wondering if they too had been tricked into a concert. When she paused between songs we all whispered because no one dare say anything too loud, lest their voice echo across the cold stone walls. I excuse myself to the restroom hoping to explore more populated parts of the restaurant. As I wash my hands a fellow diner stumbles from the stall and says “kinda like being in prison isn’t it?”

I highly recommend the Stone House for an evening of great food, drinks, and music. The staff are welcoming and the new menu is amazing. The chef has a great culinary vision of bringing farm-fresh ingredients to the table in interesting and sharable ways! I am THRILLED to have a restaurant in Nevada City that provides delicious vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options - this has been much needed in this charming town! IF you haven’t eaten at the Stone House recently….make it your next date night, you won’t be disappointed!
What a fantastic restaurant this is! We came because the building itself looked so interesting but the food and drinks were exceptional as well. Great service. An all-around magical time, love this place!
