Charming, revamped, classic roadside cafe. Nice variety of options, great coffee, cute decor, friendly service, and great views. Worth the drive!

Super sweet little spot to stop off on our way through the Central Valley. The owners of this establishment (and associated restaurant and inn) have taken great care to get it where it is right now - I wish we could have stuck around to experience more of it. But alas, I just scored one of the best Lavender Lattes I'd ever had out of the excursion - a beverage that kept me awake and alert for the rest of our drive through the valley and onto the coast. Those running this spot clearly have a big vision, and have put a lot of detail into making it a place to gather with company, and to take a rest and enjoy being off the beaten road. If this sounds like what you're needing, you should make sure to take a load off here next time you're rolling through.

Wow. This has to be one one of the coolest places ever that I've stayed in. What a surprise. It didn't look like much from the outside. But they do you well on the inside. Don't pass this place up. You'll be in the middle of nowhere but will have all you need nearby.

We enjoyed our stay very much. Very well designed! Clean and hip! My wife and I took a two night motorcycle trip through wine country and this beautiful valley. We spent an entire day by the pool and had perfect weather. We will be back!

Amazing staff, everyone was very courteous and friendly. Beautiful hotel and style, though expensive. Great food and beverage selection and quality. Love how involved the hotel is with the community in the valley.

Wonderful place, great food, comfy rooms, and the nicest staff ever. I always recommend this resort to friends and family, it's really a treat to come and stay. They offer fun events and the pool is a haven.

Staff was helpful and friendly, in particular a bartender named Summer who dropped what she was doing twice to assist me with a couple of minor problems of my own making. The place was quite lovely. Sparkling pool with whirlpool and sauna was very nice. Highly recommended. Will definitely stay again.

I have visited two years in a row and plan to keep visiting for my solo trips. This is a fantastic place to get away too. Just two hours from Pasadena, the rooms are cute the pool is perfect, and the views are amazing. Cuyama Buckhorn also has the lovelies and friendliest staff. This is the best place to get away to for a cute, low key weekend.

Buckhorn is a wonderful and remarkable place. I stayed in Room 12 which is perfectly designed - it avoids the obvious cliches and is full of smart, tasteful and unpretentious design elements. It is what I most admire - it avoids the obvious mid-century tropes and reveals itself gently. The patterned floor tile is complex without being twitchy or calling too much attention to itself. The rustic backboard to the bed is richly modest. Even the dark grout in the tile in the showers is spot on. At the same time, whoever designed it has stayed in a hotel room - thoughtful touches like the switches and outlets for chargers beside the bed are perfectly placed (no unplugging the lamp and crawling under the bedside table!) the beds are very comfortable, and the linens soft and perfectly rumpled. The garden / lawn / common table area is beautifully laid out and scaled. Locating the pool off to the side is very smart - it protects the privacy of the rooms and creates its own space. The ‘architecture’ of the buildings is wonderfully unpretentious and yet knowing and smart. Modest, apparently simple and virtually effortless (the very hardest thing to accomplish). I had supper in the bar and it was a GREAT meal. I had a chance to chat with the chef Daniel and bartender Sam. (Scott was coaching the football team). I didn’t want to make unnecessary work for Daniel, so I asked him what would be easy for him to make. He asked what looked good, and I said everything, so he made up a ‘tasting’ menu with a bit of everything. He started with shisedo peppers grown locally and picked yesterday - FANTASTIC - mild and complex. I love wedge salad and he made a small version of his normal portion - the lardons were great and excellent small tomatoes and a wonderfully mild (local?) blue cheese. Nothing overpowered anything. Next was the smoked pork on a bed of exquisite beans, and finally a really good steak. It was one of the very best meals I have ever had! I had a chance to chat with Daniel after dinner and we got to talking about his background. He worked with AMAN! We talked about the Aman resorts in Bali and Phuket and Utah - how in the world did Jeff find him and convince him to cook in the middle-of-nowhere California? He is brilliant! Sam the bartender (and asst GM?) was a delight. We got into a long discussion of gins and he introduced me to a Japanese gin I had never heard of. He asked what gins I liked, and was able on the basis of that, to recommend this one. I photographed the label and it is now my absolute favorite. We definitely need to figure out a way to organize a rally through here. Although it is possibly a bit close to LA, it is a perfect halfway point between Palm Springs or San Diego and Monterey. I am working with friends to put together a rally - maybe 10 cars this fall. It would be great to schedule it after 33 reopens - these are some of the best driving roads in California and Buckhorn is the perfect hidden jewel around which to organize a rally.

This is a wonderful oasis in the middle of the desert. The pool is sublime, their is a delightful bar and restaurant and it is a well run, clean , pleasant operation. The staff is very accommadating and helpful. We were there for the wildflower super-bloom and Carrizzo Plains is 5 miles away. We came back for th Perseids meteor shower. while the town is dark we should have moved west onto range land 5 miles away.

Imagine a Pap Springs getaway crossed with an authentic country western feel. It’s paradise. Cuyama Buckhorn is our new favorite getaway. We’ve been four times in two years and will keep heading back. The grounds, the rooms, the pool/jacuzzi, the food and drinks — all are incredible and much higher in quality than they need to be. On the first trip, everything was so shockingly delightful. On return visits, you look at other first timers looking shocked lol. Also, the staff has always been so friendly and lovely to chat with (Sam is not only an exceptional bar tender, he’s a lovely guy too), and now that we’re regulars, it feels like a second home while having a beautiful vacay. Can’t recommend this gem enough. Can’t wait get back.

The whole experience at Cuyama Buckhorn was wonderful. The food, the cocktails, the outdoor games, and sunsets were on point. I highly recommend the visit! The staff was welcoming and knowledgeable. I especially liked the all the little detail in the rooms and idea of having the snack and cocktail bar where you can fix drinks with the mini bar recipes. A very relaxing stay!

If you are off color they wont treat your the same, the bartender asked where i was from, I’m an American half white and pacific islander. Super weird. Avoid the bar at all cost. On the other hand the food was decent, just very old school. I was completely sober, not even a single drink in my system. I haven’t felt this level of racism in my entire life, just wow! I also heard him talking bad about hispanic people on the side, I definitely feel like that should be normalized at all.
