Poor service. Food was late. Chef was rude. It took about a half an hour to correct her bill. We never got our friends and family reward to use on a 91st birthday.
Our cook was nice, shy and very quiet. We have nothing against the cook. I think he did not get enough training and it showed. I was pretty jealous that all the other tables were having so much fun. Some actually sand and made everyone laugh. We were a party of 7 and we went for my bday. It is not our first time and we always enjoy Benihana's. This time we asked for all of our streaks to be medium rare or medium but they were all cooked well done. My husband ordered. The seafood diablo plate. The cook kept giving him steak. After we told him he was pescatarian. I think your store should take more time training your cooks. From there everything as nice. The place was clean and every one was nice and friendly. If my steak would have not been extra well done I think the experience would have been a little better.
Tried the new power lunch specials. No substitutions allowed FYI. Guaranteed to be served in under 45 minutes. It was, but only because they do not cook the fried rice in front of you--they bring it out from the back and it does not come close to having them cook it on the hibachi in front of you. I'd rather have them promise an hour lunch and cook everything fresh, and I think you would, too. What they did cook at the hibachi was great. Our servers kept changing and that was strange, but all in all, I got to treat my son to a fun lunch, even though we were short on time.
Reservation was at 7:30 PM, the chef did not arrive and start making our food until 8:40 PM. We did not eat until 9 PM.
There really isn’t a point in making a reservation. We were told last night it would be an additional hour. The staff didn’t really seem to care. Avoid.

Had a wonderful birthday dinner. It was a little loud. As I get older, it gets harder for me to hear with all the ambient noise.

Our server Rita was amazing! Incredibly, effortlessly attentive. Our chef was great as always. We enjoy Benihana for a lot of our family celebrations and it’s always a fun experience as well as delicious food!

This was my first Benihana experience. The food was amazing and the show was even better. We were in town for a soccer showcase and brought our entire team; it was a blast! These three chefs had it dialed in--jokes, tricks, singing, and percussion! A good time was had by all

The bathrooms in front of the restaurant smelled so bad that it was coming thru the restaurant. The service was good until half way thru. No one was checking on us and dishes were pilling up.
The amount of smoke was choking us bc the fan did not work well.

The waitress and waiter were on purposely doing a slow pickup process. They chatted so much and took me 30 mins more.

We took our son for his birthday last night. I arrived a little early 5:20 ran in to the restroom to wash my hands. The smell was so bad and raunchy I felt sick to my stomach.
I sat by the hostess stand and the smell was awful. Finally seating us at 6pm. I was so nauseous I almost didn't eat but, the soup helped my tummy. We spent over $300 upon leaving she shitty smell made my stomach turn and the food I enjoyed with my family was turning in my stomach.
Very disappointed especially for a Newport Beach location. I should have asked for a refund.

Our Chef gets 5 STARS!
We had a table reservation at 6.30 were seated promptly with 4 other people who were very nice. Across from us was a couple and a family of four celebrating a birthday. Their chef came quickly, sang beautifully and had a whole drum show.
Our waiter appeared after approximately 30min wait time and asked if we wanted california roll or spicey edamame on the house as they anticipated a little wait period for us. We waited through their entire mea, there was no Server in sight. No one came to ask if we wanted a drink or something else l, it was over an hour when our chef appeared. (I believe we should've been especially taken care off due to the extensive wait , more frequent run bys and information. Thats why service receives one star)
He was nervous, as one couples mood was tense as they were getting tired and wanted to leave.
Our Chef , Azrael did everything he could to keep us entertained. He just started the job recently , but he worked quickly and prepared delicious meals.
His humor, made us forget that we actually waited from 6.30- 8.30 until we could start eating our meal.
We did receive a discount on our bill but that was a extensive wait.
Beni Hana needs to hire more chefs like Azrael and the singing one (we didn't catch his name)
We left when the restaurant was almost empty....
Its also to be noted that there seems to be a plumbing issue , as the entrance area and bathrooms smell disgustingly like sewer. Might be worth fixing as it repels and I don't think we will be coming back , except if we can book a dinner with Azrael.
