Our server Rita was amazing! Incredibly, effortlessly attentive. Our chef was great as always. We enjoy Benihana for a lot of our family celebrations and it’s always a fun experience as well as delicious food!

The bathrooms in front of the restaurant smelled so bad that it was coming thru the restaurant. The service was good until half way thru. No one was checking on us and dishes were pilling up. The amount of smoke was choking us bc the fan did not work well.

We took our son for his birthday last night. I arrived a little early 5:20 ran in to the restroom to wash my hands. The smell was so bad and raunchy I felt sick to my stomach. I sat by the hostess stand and the smell was awful. Finally seating us at 6pm. I was so nauseous I almost didn't eat but, the soup helped my tummy. We spent over $300 upon leaving she shitty smell made my stomach turn and the food I enjoyed with my family was turning in my stomach. Very disappointed especially for a Newport Beach location. I should have asked for a refund.
Our Chef gets 5 STARS! We had a table reservation at 6.30 were seated promptly with 4 other people who were very nice. Across from us was a couple and a family of four celebrating a birthday. Their chef came quickly, sang beautifully and had a whole drum show. Our waiter appeared after approximately 30min wait time and asked if we wanted california roll or spicey edamame on the house as they anticipated a little wait period for us. We waited through their entire mea, there was no Server in sight. No one came to ask if we wanted a drink or something else l, it was over an hour when our chef appeared. (I believe we should've been especially taken care off due to the extensive wait , more frequent run bys and information. Thats why service receives one star) He was nervous, as one couples mood was tense as they were getting tired and wanted to leave. Our Chef , Azrael did everything he could to keep us entertained. He just started the job recently , but he worked quickly and prepared delicious meals. His humor, made us forget that we actually waited from 6.30- 8.30 until we could start eating our meal. We did receive a discount on our bill but that was a extensive wait. Beni Hana needs to hire more chefs like Azrael and the singing one (we didn't catch his name) We left when the restaurant was almost empty....
Its also to be noted that there seems to be a plumbing issue , as the entrance area and bathrooms smell disgustingly like sewer. Might be worth fixing as it repels and I don't think we will be coming back , except if we can book a dinner with Azrael.

We have gone to Benihana for over close to 30 years for birthday dinners, and this Newport location is disappointing. The first impression is it isn’t clean- the bathroom was dirty and the carpets are dirty as well with bits of trash. We waited for an hour for them to start our dinner even though we had made a reservation for 7. We had a great server who was attending several tables and running around to attend all of our needs. We have always had serious chefs in the past, but this time we had a 20-something year old kid telling us he only trained two weeks to have the position, and he bombarded us with ridiculous stories and opinions the entire time he prepared. We were unimpressed but he is going to end up offending to wrong person. The salsas weren’t served until the very end after the food had cooled down from taking so much time having us as his captive audience, and the salmon and udon noodles were cooked with nothing, just basically dried out and served. We won’t go back to Benihana again even after such a long family tradition, there are plenty of other tepanyaki options.

For Thanksgiving we came for a simple dinner with friends at Benihana, Newport Beach. We had a brief wait of around 10 minutes, until they sat us down. The atmosphere was pleasant, picturesque, and cozy to the touch! We didn't know how the restaurant worked, so to make your next dinner here at Benihana we will tell you. First we get drinks, and they politely ask us for our food. Then, a entertainment chef comes to cook our food, but they also come to have fun, and laughter just like us. They do magic, special tricks, and have amazing food too! While we eat, they perform: each chef in their own special way! Then, after we eat we get offered some boxes, and some tasty choices of ice cream. Lastly, they take a photo of each individual group, and even print photos for us! This was an unforgettable experience that I think all people should go to more often! Definitely would come here again with pleasure! PS: The cat in the front is perfect for memorable photos! ❤️
