Newport Beach vibes all day long..This pier has so much to offer! Stopped by Charley's Chili, right off the pier and Nikki was such a treat, patient and kind. I ordered fresh cod taco and top with salsa. Yummy PERFECT day and space to enjoy the coast vibes. Team Smiley

First, I’ll start off with the good. The restaurant itself, location and service were all just fine. It’s within footsteps of the Newport Beach pier. Our waitress was friendly and attentive.

So, why a 3 star review? The food was disappointing. We ordered a Baja fish taco, 2 beef tacos and a bowl of chili. The fish taco tortilla was somewhere between a hard shell and a soft tortilla. The fish had no flavor and the salsa tasted like marinara sauce. The beef tacos meat, although soft and tender, had no flavor. It used the same marinara style salsa. What! The chili was ok, but even still lacked love. Given the name of the restaurant, it should have been bomb, but it wasn’t. Sorry to say, but I will not be coming back.

Because this place was called Charlie's chili House, I tried their chili in every form possible - chili fries and chili omelette. The chili was surprisingly bland and it's hard to imagine that it was world famous. The service was good enough but for a place that's supposed to be famous for its chili, it was some of the most flavorless chili I've ever tasted. I found more flavorful chili come out of a can. Fortunately the location is really nice so the atmosphere is cool. But I really can't recommend this place to anybody.

Mark was great and very nice and kept those Arnold Palmers coming . He never stopped moving and made sure to greet and seat everyone. This type of service make my day . We will be back soon

Great place for a big breakfast on the beach.

We sat outside and people watched as it is right on the sidewalk by the Newport Beach Lifeguard HQ.

The portions are a good size and could be shared if you are looking for 2 smaller meals.

The kids options were great and my grandkids were stuffed before leaving.

Every time we visit Newport, my family and I make it a point to dine at Charlie’s Chili! My boys absolutely love their delicious chowder and sandwiches. The customer service is always excellent, staff are attentive and hardworking. The restaurant is clean inside and out, and we especially enjoy sitting outside to take in the sea breeze. The only downside is that they charge extra for just about everything, including condiments, and fries aren’t included with the meals. That was a bit disappointing. Still, despite that, we always enjoy our experience here and look forward to coming back!

The food was less than we expected. We had breakfast and it blend and flavorless. Their chili was ok, a little salty for my taste.

The place is right on the pier, so the view was nice.

If wouldn't recommend it at all. Waste of money.

The clam chowder is DELICIOUS. It rivals Pismo Beaches Splash Cafe's famous chowder. The burrito was also really good, large burrito with lots of eggs and potatoes. The service was fast and friendly. Try this place.

We went back this year(2025)with the family for the first time in a while, and just like before, the service was excellent and the prices were very reasonable—everyone loved it. Of course, the food was great, but the friendliness of the staff made it taste even better. I’ll always be happy to open my wallet when I visit.

The food is above average / the prices are very realistic / the staff service is top notch. We had a great brunch here on a weekend morning while walking along the beach with our beloved dog. We go here often.
