I’m a professional Uber Black driver, and the way the valet staff at Ocean 48 Newport Beach treats rideshare drivers is completely unacceptable.
The moment a driver pulls up for a pickup, the valet staff becomes aggressive—constant frantic waving, ordering drivers to move immediately, and speaking in a condescending, disrespectful manner. There is no professionalism and no attempt at calm communication, even when guests are clearly walking toward the vehicle.
What’s most concerning is the abuse of perceived authority. The valet staff behaves as if they are above everyone else, escalating situations unnecessarily. If a driver politely asks for clarification or explains that passengers are approaching, the response is hostility instead of cooperation.
This behavior doesn’t just disrespect drivers—it creates an uncomfortable scene in front of your guests, many of whom are using Uber Black specifically for a premium, seamless experience. Watching drivers be treated poorly at the entrance reflects badly on the restaurant itself.
For an establishment that markets itself as upscale and refined, allowing this kind of conduct at the front door is unacceptable. Management needs to step in, retrain the valet staff, and address the lack of professionalism immediately.
Until this is corrected, Ocean 48 Newport Beach does not meet the standard it claims to represent.

That person is Anthony. What a standup and professional manager. He knows how to manage his team, mitigate things from further escalating and simply providing 5 star management service. Impeccable food, service and atmosphere. I had the ribeye dry-aged steak, and it was by far one of the best. I believe they get their steaks from a high-quality producer. I will definitely be coming back here.
My wife and I came for the first time and for our one year anniversary. The hosts were very nice and sat us right away. The manager gave us a card congratulating us and we got a glass of champagne on the house! Our waiter was knowledgeable, fast, and very nice.
All of the food was to die for. We ordered 8 oysters as an appetizer. My wife ordered a filet, I got a wagyu, we got the king crab Mac and cheese, and the table bread was awesome!!!
For desert they gifted us the ultimate which is kind of like a butter cake.
We absolutely loved it! From valet, to waiters, to the door man who took photos for us, everyone was just amazing!

We were disappointed this time around, my wedge salad was not up to par with what I would expect, the waiter removed it from our bill. Additionally, the two sides that we ordered felt like they were taken out of the refrigerator and microwaved. Parts of them were still cold. For the price point at this restaurant, we were disappointed. I would expect the food to be excellent at all times.

Amazing experience. We always visit other high end restaurants in this area and we came for the first time for our anniversary. We were welcomed and seated immediately. The manager gave us a card congratulating our anniversary. The food was amazing, service was excellent. We found a new favorite!!!

We celebrated our anniversary at Ocean 48, and it was absolutely perfect. The atmosphere was elegant, the service attentive, and every dish was incredible. Definitely pricey, but something where you treat yourself only once or twice a year, and it's worth every penny.
