Empanadas are good, beer is almost always expired.

If you’re ever craving real Sri Lankan flavor in the San Fernando Valley, Baja Subs Market & Deli is a must. What starts as a humble market/deli combo turns into a culinary adventure once you dig into their menu. The kottu roti is sensational — perfectly spiced with that satisfying texture. The lamb and fish curries are deeply flavorful, rich without being overwhelming, and the vegetable sides (parippu, moju, mallung) are just as good as the mains.

Don’t skip the weekend specials: lamprais and biryani bring big aromas and even bigger satisfaction. Service is friendly, portions are generous, and yes, things can get spicy — but that’s part of the charm. There’s something about the “hole-in-the-wall” feel mixed with serious food care that makes Baja Subs feel like a hidden gem.

They specialize in Salvadoran food along with Mexican favorites. The pupusas are amazing — cheesy and cooked perfectly. Staff is very welcoming, and the portions are huge. The market section has interesting imports too. Definitely feels like a neighborhood spot

Sri Lankan deli inside a small market—blink and you’ll miss it. The kotthu roti is chopped on a hot griddle, spicy and satisfying. I also grabbed fish cutlets for the road; they make the car smell amazing. Staff will guide you if you’re new to the cuisine. Affordable, filling, and different in the best way

First time here. Heard a lot about it. I ordered the veggie curry plate (spicy and delicious). Had a fish roll. Never had one before. Humble, nutritious and filling. Like home cooking. The atmosphere is friendly and quiet. I was looking for something different and healthy. This hits the spot. If you're not sure if you will like it, it is similar to Indian or Ethiopian food. Not the same, but similar. Complex flavors. Colorful presentation. Thank you Baja Subs!

Holy cow this place is Great. One order of chicken curry comes with 6 dishes plus rice and each one blew my mind. I don’t even like beets but the beetroot here is tasty enough to be an entree. The curry on the bottom left has big chunks of perfectly cooked mango that have turned savory in the curry. It’s all vegan too, aside from the chicken in the top left. Huge portion too, saving the rest for dinner. Do yourself a favor and get Baja Subs.

Sleeper right here. Authentic Sri Lankan food deep in the valley that no one is talking about! Hot hoppers and curries on demand. Super polite and cheerful staff, especially the owner Jaisingha.
Check out the buffet for lunch or dinner and you can't go wrong with anything off their menu either. Really good value, taste for the money.

I had the pleasure of dining at this fantastic Sri Lankan restaurant over the weekend, and I can’t recommend it enough! The Friday and Saturday night buffet is an absolute feast for the senses. The spread includes a delicious variety of authentic Sri Lankan dishes, and I was especially impressed by the freshly made egg hoppers—crispy on the outside, soft and perfectly cooked on the inside. The dosas were another highlight, with just the right amount of crunch and paired perfectly with flavorful chutneys and sambar.

The roti was soft and aromatic, a great accompaniment to the rich curries and fried rice. Speaking of which, the fried rice was full of flavor, with a perfect balance of spices and textures. There were plenty of other options too, ensuring there was something for everyone. The service was warm and welcoming, adding to the overall delightful experience. If you’re looking for a satisfying and flavorful buffet, this Sri Lankan gem is a must-visit!

One of my top three Mexican sub shops that are neither Mexican, nor serve subs. 🤣

Went in knowing nothing except that we wanted to try Sri Lankan food. The guy working was super helpful. We got a bun full of a spiced chicken mix that was hella good, and a plate of kattu, a common street food, made with meat, veggies, sliced up roti, and lots of spices. We got to specify our heat preference and it was so so good. I suck at describing food, but it was delicious and the portion was huge , so I had the rest for dinner.
