First time trying this place with my boyfriend and their food isn’t bad for this area but not the best Mexican food I’ve had. He ordered the green pozole and fish tacos. The pozole was decent and had a lot of spice. I ordered the potato taquitos(I don’t remember what called on menu but it was in the appetizers). The server was super nice and no complaints on his service but they somehow forgot or messed up my order and I waited at least 5- 10 min after my boyfriend already got his food and was eating. After being patient I finally asked the waiter and I guess they made it to go. When the food did come it tasted fine but I feel like it was rushed cause seemed to have been missing some items like sour cream. It was crunchy and fried like a taco. Probably won’t order from here again since my first time experience wasn’t the best. I’m sure they do the best they can but it’s not for me. For the area it’s in I think it fits well for that demographic. Also the booth seat I sat in was kinda torn up a bit as well which was a little disappointing since I was wearing a dress and could feel the plastic tears on my leg. They did have music playing from a dj set up which I did enjoy a lot while eating. Overall even though wasn’t a fan I give 4 stars only because of the music and the waiter’s kindness.

Over a week ago, we were driving south to San Francisco through Novato when we decided to stop for dinner, and Mexican food won the majority vote! We chose a new place called El Rey.

We arrived around 7:30 PM, and the restaurant wasn't busy since it was a Sunday evening. Looking at the menu, I was immediately drawn to the ceviche. We decided to start with guacamole and chips, share the ceviche, and order a Quesadilla con Carne Asada. The guacamole was fresh and well-made, the ceviche was exceptionally delicious, and the quesadilla was very well-prepared and tasty.

Our server was friendly and helpful with our questions, and we even shared a few good laughs. The service was excellent.

El Rey has been a local spot in Novato for many years. It is family-owned and known for serving traditional Mexican dishes in a welcoming setting. The restaurant has built a strong reputation in the community as a reliable place for a hearty meal, with many locals returning for decades.

The restaurant is located in a standalone building within a shopping center and offers a large seating area. They also have an outdoor seating area, which I imagine would be especially nice on a warm evening.

As a first-time visitor, I was very impressed. The food, service, and relaxed atmosphere made for an enjoyable stop on our drive. We would definitely return the next time we're in Novato.

Went to pick up a 65 dollar order to go, decided I wanted a margarita. Well 16 for basically a slushie. The man behind the counter was already rude so im sure he added no alcohol to my drink . I can guarantee there is no alchol

I ordered the chicken mole with the intention of sharing it with my daughter, and it was covered in sesame seeds as a garnish. Unfortunately my daughter is deathly allergic to sesame seeds, so it had to go straight to the garbage. Generally we've been able to eat at lots of Mexican restaurants with my daughter, because they don't use sesame seeds, so I was very surprised this dish had it. And since there is no description of the dishes on the menu, there was no way to know they would cover it in sesame seeds.

I realize having a child with anaphylactic allergies means life is going to be more difficult to navigate, I don't expect restaurants to not use ingredients with common allergens. I just wish there was a description of the dish on the menu, so that we hadn't wasted our time and money on a dinner we couldn't eat.

If you have sesame or nut allergies like our family, I recommend Sabor a Mexico down in San Rafael, we've never had any issues.

This is a go to Mexican food, food truck. Fair amount of meat in their burritos. Not just rice or other fillers. Tasty and consistent. All around excellent choice.

Went for lunch, had the buffet, enjoyed what I had, which was Posole, bacon, roasted potatoes, pancakes, and Flan.

I’m sorry to say, Poor service, food is so-so, pitcher of Pink Cadillac margaritas was horrible. I asked for two tortilla packages to add to my take home portions and I was reprimanded that they usually charge for extra tortillas! Eight (8) friggin tortillas! All they had to do was add them to my bill. This is after I spend $169. for dinner and leave a $40. cash tip! We will NEVER dine at El Rey Mexican again. Was it because we were white? Something is very wrong here! Tuesday night, friggin Taco Tuesday! El Rey ruined the whole experience!

While food is generally above average (if food comes correctly made), service has been sub-par everytime I've been here.
