Outstanding food, awesome service, we liked that atmosphere.
The waiter was very friendly, and made us feel welcome. The tea cups were really nice so we bought 2. Overall the food was great👍
The quality of food has really gone down. The rice looks like the cheapest grain they can find. When they brought the bento box, I can already smell the used old oil. The salmon teriyaki is so thin, it’s hard to taste the salmon. We also ordered the uni sushi. The uni looked so pitiful. They used to have good quality food.
Great food, decent price, very friendly staff. Cute place.
great food
Fresh fish and great prices. The service is always top notch as well.
Ramen was amazing 🤩
Matsuyama in Novato was a great find during our midday pit stop on the way to Sonoma County. I had the teriyaki beef and tempura combo, and both were delicious—the beef was tender with just the right amount of sweetness, and the tempura was crispy without being too greasy. My family and nephews all enjoyed their meals, and the kids’ plates were a hit.
The restaurant has a cozy, no-frills atmosphere, making it a great spot for a casual meal. My mom was surprised to find Japanese food in the area, but Matsuyama is definitely a solid local gem. The pricing was reasonable, especially for the quality and portion sizes. Service was friendly and efficient, making the experience even better. If I’m ever in the area again, I’d love to stop by and try more of their menu!

We had the combo plates. Miso soup was mainly broth, salad was fine (will ask for less dressing next time) and combo plate selection had many to choose from. Could potentially use a little more spices.

A customer of Matsuyama for many, many years in their old location and this one, I have to say that tonight's meal, service and atmosphere was absolutely sub par. I don't know if they have changed owners or what but the food was not up to the standards of many previous visits.
The waiter was obnoxious and his skillset was so very lacking for a Japanese restaurant. He was intimidating to the young wait staff girl and his mannerisms were totally unprofessional for Japanese service and food. Watered down soup and dressing on the salad presented in a haphazard way by him. So un Japanese!
The Loud rock and roll music made the atmosphere unlike many of the previous visits to this place over the years.Horrible choice for a Japanese restaurant.
I will not recommend this dining establishment and they are an embarrassment to the Japanese culture for all three categories of the above mentioned.
