Nestled on a side street in Novato, among redwood trees, is a hidden gem. A cozy eatery, offering scrumptious, tasty traditional japanese cuisine. There is something for everyone, whether it be entrees, bento combinations, sushi, sashimi, or appetizers. The atmosphere is whimsical, with a collection of ornamental bonsai to elevate the feeling of zen. This is definitely a happy place, where the food is delicious, staff is exceptional, and the chef's talents completed our dining experience.Vegetarian options: There are options for vegetarians. You just need to double-check when ordering.Parking: The restaurant has parking on the side of the property, as well as off-street parking.Kid-friendliness: There is indoor and outdoor seating, so depending on the weather and child, there are options.Wheelchair accessibility: I believe the doors are wide enough to be wheelchair accessible to go inside, but the is also outdoor seating. There are no stairs or steps to hinder access.

The staff was very kind about fixing my order. I had asked for chirashi don, but with the loud music, my speech impairment, and a mask, they mistakenly brought out unagi don at first. Normally I don't like to make people go through the trouble of correcting my order, but eel is very difficult for me to eat (for reasons related to my speech impairment).The chirashi don was not only delicious but also beautifully presented. And, I often rate restaurants by whether I feel extremely thirsty afterwards (in my mind, a sign of overuse of salt or other seasoning), and with Matsuyama, I did not have this problem.This was my first visit, with my partner's family, and we all had a great time and very much enjoyed the food. I hope to be back soon!

1st time. Got the gyoza and veg ramen. No flavor. Gyoza like rubber. Ramen broth tasted like sink water. Bland random assortment of veritable. No flavor anywhere. Staff was really friendly though.
The original owners sold about a year ago. The interior has been updated nicely. All new staff. Who could use a bit more training. Not as attentive as previous staff. Food is as good or slightly better. Prices have gone up, but not out of align.
