Great sandwich. I'm usually one to customize a sandwich order; no tomato, extra mayo, different cheese, that kind of thing. Something about Michaels sandwiches menu/vibe made me leave the roast beef on sourdough sandwich totally default.. with the choice of brown mustard (versus yellow).
The bread was chewy and bubbly with a firm crust that gave with a good bite. It was also light on the sour dough tanginess which is a big plus for me as I usually avoid sourdough. The toppings and condiments where fresh and perfectly proportioned making it greater than the sum of its parts.
The creole potato salad is notably delicious with some unique flavors and should be ordered too. The macaroni salad was good, but nothing to write home about.
The place was casual and no frills, as was the service. Straight to the point and the sandwich and sides ready before I even finished paying by their team. The pickle spear is a lovely touch too. All in all this was super filling and delicious and about 22 bucks (I left a 15% tip cause why not).. that's a Snapple, two sides and the sandwich, totally fair price. The chip and drink selection was extensive. If I lived in the area I would be here every week. Go here.

Michael’s Sourdough is the go to spot for sandwiches in the North Bay… arguably the best sourdough in the entire Bay Area.
No matter how you rank them, their sandwiches are always satisfying, generous in size and the first recommendation to anyone looking for a sando.
Beyond the food, the service is consistent, quick and friendly. Yesterday i ordered Michaels sourdough and on my way home i had to slam on the brakes, and two sandwiches went flying destroying them and creating a total mess haha total disaster. I went back to reorder, and when I casually mentioned what happened, the team later sent me a refund without me ever asking. That kind of generosity and care is rare and I really appreciated it.
Thanks, Michael’s Sourdough! I’ll be ordering for as long as your doors are open.

I've been a customer for years of the san rafael location. Amazing sandwiches, amazing staff and great environment. They were recently closed and my daughter was getting ready to head off to college so we thought we'd try the novato one. Worst customer service and the worst part was it was from the boss! I asked to enter my number for points, he looked so bothered. Barely spoke to me. I asked for extra mayo and it seemed like an impossible task. Once I made it home, my sandwich was definitely as satisfying as the san rafael location. I will definitely not be going back to the Novato location.
I've had great experiences with San Rafael's location up until yesterday when I called in my order at 7:40 and was told it'd be 25 mins. That was fine, but I get there and I was informed that they didnt have all of their supplies so my sandwiches weren't able to be made. I drove there, ran out of time to pass by anywhere and ended up eating a Ramen for lunch that I found in the staff lounge. It was disappointing.

For many years, I’ve been frequenting both this location in Novato and the one on Anderson Drive in San Rafael. The sandwiches are the best, bar none. Service is relatively quick. Everyone is attentive. I really like their sourdough baguettes.
Parking: You should have no problems with finding a parking here.

Absolute staple around here, great sandwiches. I made a mistake though, as I ordered a Golden Gate online, but requested the special of the day meat, the Albuquerque turkey instead of the roasted turkey, but was hoping they'd keep the ham. Instead I got only Albuquerque turkey, effectively rendering it the special and not a Golden Gate in any form. I take responsibility for not being specific, but it was still very fresh and tasty so whatever. Always consistent, only real complaint is the hours

If you are looking for a good sandwich go here instead on the nearby Subway. The sourdough is really good, and they made my sandwich in under 1 minute on a Friday at lunch time.
