If you're looking for some freshly baked Chinese pastries, Napoleon Super Bakery is a great place to visit. The baos are delightfully fresh and very reasonably priced. I love the filled pineapple buns here - the fillings are not to sweet and generous and the cookie topping is crumbly and delicious. I will note that the egg tarts are good, but I personally like the ruby rival's down the street a little bit more - I think the crust is flakier there - but these are still solid egg tarts that I wouldn't turn down. Like most Chinese bakeries, the staff don't speak much English and can be gruff, but the pastries are WORTH IT. Be bold...go get those baos!

Stopped by for a snack because I was in the area and this place did not disappoint.Cash only. You do have to pay if you want a box, but generally the pastries are good in the bag (it’s just not super eco-friendly).

The egg tarts are the best. The currently price, as July 7th, is $1.75. Was $1.50. Cash only place.

A great place to get baked Chinese goods. The ham and corn bun are tasty! The scallion buns are savory and always hit the spot. I will always visit this place when I’m in town or passing through! A definite recommendation!!!

Love the pastries and tasty goodies this bakery has to offer. Will definitely come here the next time I’m in San Francisco.

We ordered a 10-inch multi-fruit birthday cake. It was very moist and had good sweetness level. It tasted very good. Too bad we didn't have time to try the other pastries. There is a line outside the door pretty regularly. With limited parking, we drove around in circles with a person waiting in line. After a few rounds, the line would shrink and grow again. Expect a wait.

Found Napoleon Super Bakery off of Yelp and so glad I did :DMost part of downtown Oakland aren't the best. Napoleon is in Chinatown. Streets are a bit dirty, and doesn't smell too great. Be aware of your surroundings. Street parking and be sure to read the signs! Now on to the good parts! I was a bit unsure how it would actually taste, so I first ordered 2 egg tarts and a pineapple bun. Went back to the car to eat (since the smells of the street were potent) and devoured both quickly. The egg tart is made well. Although not hot, it still had a great ratio of crust to custard. My comparison would be to Golden Gate Bakery. If you eat the egg tart from Golden Gate Bakery, they are still usually hot/warm when you eat it...but Napoleon's tasted just as good as Golden Gate Bakery imo if you waited a few hours. Also, we stopped by about an hour before closing, so I wasn't expecting anything hot. The plain pineapple bun were good too, so we decided to go back and order more :DI decided to order another half dozen of the egg tarts, some coconut tarts, cake, and a few pineapple buns. Pretty much anything they had available, I grabbed some to try it out so I could share with family.I didn't really get the prices, but it is definitely an awesome bang for your buck. I think normally the egg tarts are $1.50, but they mentioned since the crusts came out not up to their normal standard, they lowered the price to $1.30. I waited 1-2 days after to finish an egg tart and it was still so good without heating it up too!I am highly recommending Napoleon Super bakery. I hope maybe I can come in the morning one time (if I'm in the area), so I can see if they have hot baked goods available. If I'm near the Oakland area, I will ALWAYS try to stop by Napoleon to grab some treats :)Follow the adventure @shoyuthebest on IG!

Such a great bakery, and definitely one of the cheapest in town. Recommend the Portuguese egg tart and the custard polo. The egg tart was deliciously flaky and fragrant, while the custard polo had a great texture and traditional Chinese style custard.

Old school Chinese breads that you can’t find anymore! Not much to choose from but still pretty good and it’s really cheap! The cha siu bo lo bao is great warmed in the oven. The egg tarts are pretty good too!

Napoleon was a famous short French tyrant and this bakery's short stack buns reign in my heart! Everything is delicious. I highly recommend the coconut raisin bun and the egg tarts...chef's kiss! I cannot grant this fine establishment a 5 star rating for 2 reasons: 1. A homeless man whose stench is HORRENDOUS stands outside of this bakery all day, everyday. Sometimes his odor gets into the pastries and turns Napoleon's sumptuous treats into morsels that might be characterized as an old gym sock baked in a pile of manure. I desperately wish that man and his stench would go elsewhere (perhaps to a Grocery Outlet, Bargain Market where he would not harm a hometown hero bake shop). 2. I was waiting in line for discount buns one fine afternoon and a handsome young man in line clearly had the Wuhan bug. He was coughing, sneezing, and didn't have a mask on. Napoleon had many elderly customers. A strict mask policy would do them good! I'm very afraid that handsome young man took out some elderly treat-seekers for his shot at a discount egg tart. All in all, Napoleon is a gem and is doing the little French tyrant proud!

A CASH ONLY BAKERY! At 1:30pm there was still a line of people eager to get their Chinese pastries, which was a good sign. The only bad thing is the number of violations (14), but yet this doesn't stop people from patronizing this establishment. I guess what people don't know won't hurt them & thus far, our family hasn't gotten sick so maybe we have a high tolerance. Orders: Egg Tart- light & flaky crust with a generous egg filling that isn't overly sweet. Everyone's favorite & a list order. Curry Beef - good amount of filling with enough curry flavor to satisfy. Seasonal Mooncake Festival (August) Mini Lotus Mooncakes w/o egg yolk- the outer shell was a little thicker than I prefer but the lotus filling was a nice smooth texture. Mini Redbean Mooncake w/o yolk- again the outer shell wasn't my favorite but the red bean really made me smile from ear to ear. Selection is big, but can dwindle if you come any later than 3pm, so make sure you get there early.

Old school Chinese bakery, known for their egg tarts, they also have the Portuguese style custard. They definitely don't use any preservatives because my egg tarts went bad in a few days so I didn't get to try . I also had their wife's cake (lau puo bing)-- made of candied winter melon-- and it was very authentic. They did get my order wrong, I ordered Portugal custard but got egg tarts instead. Cash only!

Came by on a Saturday afternoon and there was a line. It went by pretty quickly - we probably waited around 15 minutes for our turn. We got their egg tarts, BBQ pork bun, and sausage bread, which were all delicious!! Prices ranged between $1.50-$2, which is a great deal normally but even more so because they're delicious :) Tip: this place is cash only!!

There's always a long line of diverse customers at this tiny Oakland Chinatown bakery because their delicious egg tarts, pastries, sandwiches and cakes appeal to everyone. The prices are unbeatable so it's perfect for feeding a big group. We ordered my daughter's first birthday cake here, and if you pay in advance (cash only), you can skip the line and show your receipt to pick up your order. Everyone at our party talked about how good the mixed fruit cream cake was. Who needs a smash cake when you can get a light and not-too-sweet cake with fruit and whipped cream?
