This restaurant is the real deal—the meal was both close enough to traditional Dominican food to feed homey (think Mofongo, chicharrón de pollo, camarones criollo, morir soñando) but also full of fresh bright flavors that you can't always find in standard Caribbean. The salad alone was outstanding! Inventive and delicious. The sauce for the chicharrones transformed that dish. I'm already planning my next visit. ¡¡Corre!!!!
The food was SO GOOD, we had the red snapper and had to order another one because it was that good. The camaron was absolutely delicious and insanely flavorful, same with the half chicken. The service was amazing, it seemed like the servers knew exactly when to come and when we needed something. It’s such a cute spot and beautifully authentic. Absolutely loved this place, and hope K can visit again.
The food at alaMar is so unique and delicious. This is your go to place for a taste of authentic Dominican food in Oakland. Since my dining partner is not so adventurous, we had the pork pernil. I want to go back for got and oxtails. There was a big birthday party the night we went which caused service delays for us. That was our only downside
