dosa By DOSA is an upscale Indian-American fusion restaurant that reminds me of my mom's homemade south indian food. The food is comforting South Indian style food with North Indian fusion. The first time I came to this restaurant was for Oakland restaurant week and ever since I have come back on numerous occasions! The interior of the restaurant is very modern and upscale with bright lighting and seating. Now for the food, my go to orders include: - The pani puri (5/5): The pani puri is a delicious sweet and savory bite, stuffed with curried chick peas, tamarind sauce, and mint chutney, as well as a rich and creamy rita with cucumber essence. - Paper Masala Dosa (stuffed with potato curry or butter chicken) (5/5): Whether you love some spiced potatoes or enjoy the creamy depth of a good butter chicken both iterations of the Paper Masala Dosa satisfy every craving. The potato curry has just the right amount of turmeric and black pepper corn to give it a kick while paring alongside the long flaky Dosa. The butter chicken on the other hand, has a rich spice blend and tomato basil base that elevates the tender chicken to another level. All dosas are also paired with the essential dosa trinity: tomato chutney, mint chutney and sambar dipping sauces! - Pumpkin Chai (3/5): This Americanized spin on traditional Masala chai although intriguing in concept lacked in depth of flavor. The pumpkin was far too overpowering and aggressively sweet to where it entirely masked the cardamom, and elahchi profiles in the masala chai - making it merely average. I highly recommend grabbing a dosa at dosa by DOSA - specifically the paper Masala dosa!

Is it just me, or has Dosa been closed for good? They have not been open for at least 4 months. I think they are gone unfortunately... It is a shame. Dosas were great (especially the giant spiced potato), innovative lassis, and great happy hour drinks and eats. Hopefully they keep their supermarket line of foods alive, or come back in some way, shape, or form in the future!

Warning: cooks / food preparers not wearing masks. When pulling up to get takeout I noticed the man preparing my food had his mask down below his chin. I called and spoke to the order taker and explained my concern that my food had been prepared by someone without a mask. He first said something about the kitchen being too hot, then he said that they "have no contact with the outside" to which I questioned what that could possibly mean. They leave the restaurant and are in quarantine every day? Only going back and forth from home to restaurant and everyone in restaurant is doing the same? To which he back tracked and said that all the staff are checked daily. I asked them to remake my food. And to have manager called me to explain my concerns. The manager never called

I first came here during Restaurant Week in Oakland, and afterwards I've come back here a couple more times. This is a great Indian restaurant to check out, with a really modern and well-designed venue inside. Everything on the interior looks really new, with a very bright and airy vibe to it. It usually doesn't take too long for us to get seats and to get our food, especially since you order at the front. For the food, the dosas are very authentic and taste delicious. They are really crispy and go well with whatever else you order with it, such as potatoes or the various sauces that come with it. I've also gotten appetizers such as the idli fries, which are pretty unique and a creative dish that they offer there. During restaurant week they also offered pani puri, which was delicious! The portions there are decently sized, so it'll definitely be enough for people to get full. Overall, if you want authentic dosas and indian food I would highly recommend checking out this restaurant if you're ever in the Oakland area!

This place is great, food is great, staff is great, owner frequently throws in free Kheer. The only downside here is the wait, even if you order to go, you may end up waiting like in person, which sucks but the food is so worth it that I don't even care.

I tried this place already with my friend and I am obsessed ever since. I enjoy the great mood and tasty food and drinks. Great work.

I am not sure what I expected so can’t quite articulate why it didn’t quite meet expectations ... i think maybe less “Fusion”? The roti rolls aren’t bad, just a little too saucy for my liking and lacking a bit in authentic flavours.

** The following review reflects my delivery experience DURING the COVID-19 pandemic. **Now you would think with a name like 'dosa By DOSA' that I would order the dosa. After all, who doesn't love a rice pancake rolled into a pouch full of goodness inside? It's like a momo on steroids, right? But alas, delicious batter like that will not touch my lips...unless it's doughnuts. I make exceptions for doughnuts. Basically I'm saying I have no guiding principles when it comes to batter, but I showed enough discipline to order their vegetarian fare for delivery.First up was the $12.99 Spicy Tandoori Tofu, Tikka, Kale & Farro Salad which was organized quite neatly in what looked like a pre-packaged plastic container (photo: Mixed together, it was quite delicious with the grilled, spicy tofu lending a nice contrast to the crunchy broccolini, kale & carrot and the chewy farro with the cumin line dressing lending a touch of citrus (photo: As a companion dish, Jamie W. and I shared the $12.99 Sprouted Mung Bean Salad. It was a similar mix in a similar container with the kale and mung beans but with a bit of pear, chili powder, and an ample topping of bhel puri, a snack mix that reminded me of Cheezits (photo: It had the right ingredients, and after we mixed it altogether, we added our own stash of sriracha to add some more kick (photo: We did end up indulging a bit and shared the tangy $4.99 Chocolate Chile Brownie. What was I saying about batter not touching my lips. Fuggedaboutit.FOOD - 4 stars...Indian salads with snap with a need for a bit more kickAMBIANCE - n/a...this was a delivery that said it was coming from Berkeley, not their Oakland restaurant SERVICE - 4 stars...pretty promptTOTAL - 4 stars...you don't need to get a dosa at dosa by DOSARELATED - In the mood for Indian? Food was good but difficult to pick up- server did not want to open window even though we arrived during business hours and we wore masks. Our order was incomplete, but we could not contact them so we simply got charged for an item we never received - pretty disappointing.

Good outdoor dining options for food or drinks. Dog friendly. Friendly service. Daily specials.

This order took forever for them to prepare. I waited over an hour for three small items.Spicy butter chicken (3/5) - tasted okay, nothing special, and nothing to rave about. Not your traditional butter chicken. Portion is super small. It's like half of what you would expect from a normal order.Lemon rice (4/5) - tasty lemony rice, this was special and new to me. It tasted fresh but the portion is small.Mango lassi (4/5) - this was pretty yummy, very thick, and the flavoring was spot on. It's the only reason why I ordered delivery for this place. It was good but not something I would crave or order again since I prefer the more traditional mango lassi.Overall, this place was good in terms of taste and I can tell the ingredients were fresh. Def not the traditional Indian restaurant taste as I believe this is southern Indian food. I would give it a try if you're in the area and looking to explore a different type of Indian cuisine.

It was delicious. It's definitely fusion food/Calif/U.S. influence to Indian food. But everything was so flavorful. The sauces are scrumptious, but candidly even without the sauce each item was flavorful. The sauces added moisture to what otherwise might be too dry a dish. The idli fries were crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. The dosa was flavorful and everything was prepared in a timely manner and service was decent. Extra sauces are 50 cents and it's worth it to try a few, pricing was fair. Definitely will have repeat visits.

The chicken was undercooked, and the samosas were bland. I had high expectations from this place but the food is way overpriced for the flavour and quality delivered.

So, I will start with I ordered from Dosa by Dosa on caviar.com. Food came quickly, taste was ok, not fabulous, but good. I ordered the masala dosa and the tikka masala dosa because the pictures looked so appetizing. First question, where was the filling??? There was probably 3 bits of potato curry in the masala dosa and the tikka masala dosa, well, the same, it was not coming out of the ends like the picture shows. To pay $13 faor a tikka masala dosa for maybe 4 bites of chicken tikka, not worth it. Very disappointed. I ordered a sprite and a side of raita, both were not in my order but I was given someone else's tea and masala chai. Quality, good, quantity, not worth what I paid for. I hope they can do better in the future as I wouldn't recommend this place for future orders.
