El Loro is a nice taqueria in the heart of Laurel. Came here one day for a quick breakfast burrito and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The staff was super friendly, provided lots of extra peppers and salsa (how I like it) without charge! The burrito was really good, definitely would come back to try other items on the menu based off that 1 experience.

Best food in the laurel district. Their crispy tacos are the best. Their fish is so fresh I can honestly say the best tacos in Oakland best fresh food.

Good tacos here. I got the veggie tacos: I particularly liked how nicely the tortillas were cooked. The rice had chicken broth in it, but the refried beans are veg friendly (and very good). The salsas were pretty disappointing. The prices were fine—this is a sit down restaurant so you may pay a little more but it comes with free chips and salsa (which were very good).

I'm scared to brag on this place because before the closed for a couple years the line was out the door. The deep fried taco is the best taco in Oakland, & Oakland has some good a** Mexican food..... Let the hype begin !

Sopes are on hit! Got the carnitas and steak, fresh masa. Waitress is nice, thank you for the recommendations!

Good food. Burrito was huge and very simple with fresh ingredients. Homemade salsa good too. Nice service. Very different than Gerardo that was there before. Next time I go I will try the tacos because they looked good.

El Loro has to be one of Oakland's best-kept secrets. I'm always surprised when this place is relatively empty while Sequoia Diner a few doors down has an hour-long wait. The service is incredibly friendly and attentive, and I love the family-owned vibe. Everything I've ordered here was super fresh and amazing, but the sopes in particular are mind-blowing: The homemade masa with the perfect amount of crispy exterior and soft interior, layer of beans and cheese, flavorful meat of choice (my favs are the pastor and carne asada), topped with crisp lettuce and queso fresco. You can get two of these, more than enough for a solid lunch, for less than 9 bucks. What?! Not to mention a generous helping of free chips with an array of bomb-ass salsas. Come here and keep this amazing institution in business! Note: they accept credit cards now (used to be cash-only)

If I could give negative stars I would. No one was at the restaurant on Friday night. Bad sign. Ordered the ground beef enchiladas and there were about 5 small pieces of meat. The rest of the filling was potatoes and various vegetables! Who puts potatoes in a beef enchilada?! Plus the potatoes were hard and undercooked. Enchilada sauce tasted like it came out of a can. It was not edible. Had to order food from another restaurant for my dinner instead. Only good thing is the chips were not bad. Was very hopeful to have a new restaurant in the Laurel but I will not be going back here...

Excellent! Omg their Super Burrito is the best I've had in a long time. And it is SUPER! The crispy steak tacos to die for. This is my new spot. Everything is fresh and the steak isn't pre cooked. Seasoned to perfection! This is going to be the best in the bay pretty soon!!!

Great food in an area that needs good Mexican food. Went for Taco Tuesday special and had some delicious steak and chicken tacos. Will be coming back.

Great place! We stopped in here on a Saturday night. The gentleman working was very nice and attentive- great service. Chips were freshly baked, my fajita was super yummy- not too greasy and with freshly grilled tortilla. We'll definitely be back!

This is probably my favorite Mexican restaurant. 10/10 recommend it is close to my house so if I ever do feel like cooking I stop on the way from picking up my kids. When you get there they bring you a fresh hot bowl of chips and the salsa is amazing I love the taco's I also recommend them. My kids love the enchiladas and there horchata. Definitely should eat there!

We tried this new place in the neighborhood tonight and loved it! Delicious food- I especially loved the salsa (perfect amount of cilantro!) and verde sauce on my enchiladas. Friendly staff, too. Recommended!
