The service was very slow! Anticipate waiting 20 or more minutes after calling in your order which would be another 20 minutes. The lady was nice but the chicken was too salty for me. It was my first visit. I choose not to revisit. The workers are extra slow I their delivery. The cook extra slow! The place was clean nothing fancy.

Delicious fried chicken. Chicken was crispy even when we took it to gob Mac n cheese was pretty good. I like the fact that they serve whole jalapeños. I got the 3 piece dark meat combo with slaw and beans. All of it was great.

Oh my the place resembles a true image of a "hole in the wall", but Oh!, don't let the location nor look fool you. The food is absolutely amazing! The chicken will have you thinking, "This reminds me of home!" The sides were delicious too and lastly, the counter staff were very polite and respectful. When I'm in the area, I'm most definitely going to return to, Gus' World Famous Fried Chicken!!!

The chicken is bomb... it kind of gives me Church's chicken vibes but BETTER! Love the spice and flavor. The sides not so good, hence the 4 star rating. The greens were pretty good though. The Mac & cheese, fries, and coleslaw not so much. I'm definitely coming back for the chicken and to try a few other items.

Best chicken ever!!!! I've been to several locations and the service here was the best! Food quality is amazing and chicken is some of the best I've ever had. Get the Mac n cheese and don't forget their delicious pie. Will go back every time I'm in town!!!!

The chicken here is bomb asf ! The server was super nice to me, loved the atmosphere and the ambiance of the place even though it's small. I didn't care too much for the sides but I would definitely go back for the chicken.

Chicken was bomb ! No doubt about it . For it to be in downtown Oakland the service was great we were walked through the menu by ( Krystal employee) and made some great recommendations. Food time was efficient & followed with consistency. Real pride of Memphis I'd have to say biting into this chicken. It's safe to say I am hooked lol. By far best fried chicken in Oakland !

Best fried chicken I've had. Love the slight heat on it. Also the sides are delicious. Favorites are the greens and Mac and cheese, but the fried okra is yummy too. We've eaten at the one in Oakland (take out) and downtown Memphis- which was so busy we took to go and had a picnic in the parking lot
So first off the chicken here is really amazing ! On most days I only eat my mom's fried chicken but this is the one spot that makes me go out of my comfort zone to eat chicken! The chicken is so good! It reminds me of a place I used to eat at growing up down in compton but today I Checked and there is no affiliation. Still delicious though. The service here is really great it was my first time walking in and ordering usually I order it for delivery when I'm being lazy and don't feel like walking in. It's small inside but that's a good thing especially being downtown you can't trust the foot traffic! I'll be back again. Soon

As a foodie, I am always on the lookout for hidden gems and delicious food. This is my first time trying Gus World Famous Fried Chicken in Oakland, CA. We stopped by on a Sunday for dinner and from the moment I first stepped in to when I left, I was greeted with a smile from the staff. As soon as i stepped in the restaurant, the air was filled with fries and fried chicken smell. The chicken was crispy on the outside and meat on the inside is juicy. We ordered small fries and 5 drumsticks and it was very filling. I can tell that they used fresh ingredients and chicken. The fries were just normal, nothing special. The store isn't anything fancy but the tables, bathroom and floors were clean. If you don't want to wait, I recommend getting there 5 minutes before they open.

If you've craving fried chicken this will hit the spot. It was a tad salty for us but the crunch was amazing. Also love that you can choose white/dark meat. The sides were a let down - slaw was too sweet, Mac & cheese was Kraft box sprinkled with paprika. The guy behind the counter was really friendly though.

I have never really been into fried chicken. My mom was a health nut so she was pretty much against fried food. My husband let our daughter have friends over once while I was at work and when I got home he went out and picked up a large amount of Gus's chicken. I tried it and OMG it was soooooooo GOOD! Like so good that now sometimes I get a hard core craving for it!!! It has really good flavor, it's just spicy enough but not so overwhelming that my kids won't eat it. I high recommend this place if you are craving fried chicken!!!!

Some the best fried chicken around, and I do not say the lightly. Be prepared to wait if you haven't ordered ahead, but the wait will be worth it, I promise. There isn't much seating inside either, so takeout may be the move, but may compromise the crispness if you have to travel far to eat. Would be 5 stars if they were speedier and could accommodate more tables.
