One of my favorite new restaurants. With so many Chinatown restaurants closing early, it's nice to have something that stays open late. The food is really good and people are really nice.

The best one out of the Chinatown restaurants... clean and great service! Plus the food is very good... my Taiwanese mom who is particular about Chinese food will only come here now for Chinese food. The 3 dish + soup deal is awesome...

I used to go to this restaurant for dinner, and then it was not open for a while. I was very happy to see it reopened when I went shopping last week, and I decided to order today. But I am disappointed that the food is really not good, maybe the boss and the chef have changed. Curry beef brisket Casserole tastes strange, smells unappetising, and after one bite I don't want to eat it again. The fish-scented eggplant is so oily that you can squeeze out half a bowl of oil. The Singapore fried rice vermiche was bland but better than the first two dishes.

Used to be old D&A Cafe. But the funny thing is that it is now under the ownership of the bbq/roast duck lady from a super market that my mom used to go to. The food here is good and the portions are big. We usually get the wontons only soup and then the 3 items as it comes with soup. Their braised fish with tofu is amazing. Highly recommend. Their fried spare ribs / sweet and sour spareribs and green beans with chicken is a good staple as well. The service is fast. That is all you need. Ambience is nice but again remain the same as old D&A cafe. They got newer bench and tables though.

We were headed for our favorite cafe in Chinatown, but alas, forgot it was closed on Tuesday, and it's hard to find another open for dinner, but we saw the bright, clean and new-ish Hay Yue. There were a couple of others eating there, and a couple for take out, but we looked at the menu: could it really have that much to choose from. Yes!!! Initially, we were just going to have ho fun soup and a clay pot, but couldn't resist the 3 dish special, and am I glad we got to try it. In addition to the house soup (lotus root and carrot), we had beef clay pot, fish and veggies, and spare ribs and pumpkin clay pot. Each was a very full dish, the pumpkin was the best, more braised; the daikon and stew was tasty, but a little tough. The fish and broccoli was a beautiful presentation, and classic. We will definitely come back. Get the three dishes and take home the leftovers! Service was fast and friendly. It reminded us of our favorite Oakland Chinese restaurant: Rainbow!!!

Authentic Cantonese food, great value and most of all great service. We had clay pot rice and they make their own preserved meats. The restaurant looks clean for Chinatown so it’s worth a try.

I'm glad another restaurant took over this spot. They have a special where you can order 3 dishes for $40. It comes with a house soup, today they had dried vegetable soup with almonds. I really missed restaurants that give out house soup. We ordered the salt and pepper pork chop, combination tofu clay pot and Chinese broccoli with fish cake. The ladies working inside were efficient and kind. The place was packed for lunch. Food came out quick. Everything was a little on the salty side for me. Pork chop was crispy and full of meat, the tofu clay pot was good too. The Chinese broccoli and fish cake was only okay, will skip that next time and try something else.

Not easy to find since it's hidden in the grocery stores. We parked near Lincoln playground. Good services and a new place for clay pot rice in the East bay. Will go back. They have a variety of food and the kids like it.

I recently noticed that this place has a grand opening sign so during lunch time I decided to check it out. The interior of the restaurant lacks any decoration and a little boring to look at. The restaurant has typical booth settings that can seat parties of 4 and bigger tables to seat bigger parties. The service is quick and efficient, I didn't have to wait long to order or get my food. I ended up ordering the club sandwich and hong kong milk tea. The sandwich and fries were a bit too cold for my liking so that's my first complaint. Other than that it was also pretty dry, if I didn't have ketchup I don't think I would have been able to finish it. However the sandwich itself was pretty decent. I wouldn't order it again though. The hong kong milk tea however was delicious! This is one of my favorite drinks so I was very happy that this place nailed it. The drink is strong and sweet just like how I like it. I might come back with friends but maybe not alone? It might be a better idea to order multiple dishes and share with friends to get a better idea of this restaurant.

Clean dinning area. Vast menu. Friendly service. Yummy clay pot dish. There is a "Clay Pot" section and a separate "Pot Rice" section in their menu. Silly me - I wanted clay pot rice but mistakenly ordered a Clay Pot ( which doesn't come with sizzling rice in the pot ). Food was still good. Need another visit for clay pot rice.

If you like the predecessor of 8th St Cafe, called D&A cafe at the corner of Webster st cross 7th st 20 years ago, you would love this Hay Yue restaurant.I came for dinner today. The dishes are $20-$25 each, not too bad considering minimum wage is $16 an hour. If you want to enter value mode, you can get $39.99 for 3 dishes in smaller portions. The bamboo lamb brisket in clay pot is as delicious as you would expect. The one in my photo is a small portion version. A lot of lamb, very generous.Scrambled egg with prawns is a Hong Kong classic dish and this restaurant cooked it very well. The eggs are creamy as it should be. You can compare it with scrambled egg with bitter melons, which is another style that cooked the eggs a bit more. I like the creamy one more. This restaurant cooked these two dishes in two different styles that they should be, very good job here.If you like spicy food, you can give sichuan stir-fried chicken a try. It is surprisingly spicy enough to taste good. They have some customizations for clay pot rice which are not shown in the menu. For example, we can order a larger size of chicken pot rice with added preserved meat. I am not fond of pot rice in general, but they are very popular in this restaurant. People started ordering them at around 10:30 am!You will not be disappointed with the milk tea with condensed milk as well.Hay Yue restaurant is definitely a strong character in chinatown that you should put it on top of your taste menu, especially now other good ones were folded or gone.

Ordered dinner special to go. 3dishes for $39. Super small portion. These containers are not regular size. These are half the size of regular container and the portion is not even full!! Food not that great either.
