Whenever I host out-of-town visitors, our adventures often lead us to the charm of Jack London Square, where I'm eager to share the rich history of one of my favorite saloons. On a recent Monday afternoon, with three guests in tow, we found ourselves at the saloon's door at 2:30 PM, slightly ahead of its opening time at 3 PM. DUE TO our tight schedule precluding a return visit later, an encounter with an employee outside sweeping unfortunately didn't allow for even a brief peek inside, despite our polite request TWICE. This interaction was a tad disappointing, particularly since a quick glance would have been brief. However, this experience hasn't dimmed my affection for the bar and its storied past, which remains a highlight of our local tours.

Great atmosphere and location. Parking sucks. Plenty of restaurants around here. We came on a beautiful day in March with no wind! Perfect place for a drink before or after dinner! Cheers!

I've known this place since I had my own bar on Broadway was involved with the clubs in the East Bay Area. I silks Charlie Brown's luckylion. in Oakland, equinox and zaas on Grand Ave., Miss Ivy downtown Oakland, Overland house Rusty scupper and others. Lotta people may remember where square apple or tower power starter on Broadway. The East Bay was the hottest place for a lot of nightclubs on Broadway

Omg it's soooo much history in this place!!! (Opened 1884). Note inside is small but there is seating outside. Had a great time with Coe and Ryan!!! Definitely a place to visit in Jack London Square!! I love they support local labels.

Cool little bar on the waterfront. Lots to see in there and the beer is nice and cold.

Fun place and great drinks. Friendly bar tender and clientele. If you don't know the history of the place it's worth looking up before you visit. Amazing to think about the oyster pirates and gold rushers who sat here drowning their sorrows or celebrating a win.
