I had the walnut prawns. My friends had orange chicken and sweet and sour chicken. All three were delicious and it came to 50 bucks. Service was awesome too.

Good local Chinese spot. Haven’t been disappointed by anything on the menu. Fried eggplant is really good. Wouldn’t go out of my way for it.

Always good food. Prices are more than some, but the quality is good. Food is quality, staff is always pleasant. Not nearly as salty or greasy as lots of other "cheap" places. We always come here when we want healthier, quick, options.

I got the General's chicken and some vegetables. It was... good? I mean it wasn't bad, but it was not inspiring. I can't fairly give the food 4 stars based on what I ate tonight.

When you’re craving that simple American Chinese dish, this is your place. Recently renovated shops, Hunan Yuan serves lunch specials every day (including weekends) till 3 pm. My beef with green bean stir fry was great, and it came with a small salad and soup. The dining room is sparse but comfortable.

Hard to find place behind the building.Chicken wings tasted slightly bitter. Either bad or old wings. But nothing like what fresh chicken wings I’ve had at any other chinese restaurant.Beef and broccoli at least had well cooked broccoli, unlike some places that serve semi-raw.But they skimped on the sauce. Usually should have oyster/soy sauce perhaps thickened with starch. But this was very bland.Just add more sauce to beef and broccoli.

Honestly the worst Chinese food I've ever had. The chow mein was oily, the calamari was bland and the duck was over cooked. For the amount I paid I expect much better food. Honestly when I see the high reviews I cannot imagine how. I'd avoid

Love getting lunch/dinner at this place. They are very friendly and serve all the classics and some authentic dishes as well. My favorite is the chicken and green bean lunch special with hot and sour soup!Parking: shopping center lotWheelchair accessibility: The ramp is near safeway

Food is always good here, never had a bad experience. Very much enjoy the orange chicken and string beans every time we come. Service staff is always friendly as well! All this food cost around ~$38 but there's a bunch and can easily serve 4-5 people!! Definitely one of my new favorite spots and would recommend for people that want to try someplace new :)

I don't know what happened to this place but the flavor is gone. Everything we had was bland. Also overpriced. Which I was okay with when the food was good but the quality has gone down significantly. The only thing that is still worth ordering is mushu.

Love the vegetarian spring rolls and Walnut shrimp with brown rice. Also the eggplant with tofu. Veggies are always fresh. Partner really loves the salt/pepper pork chops. My go to Chinese food near home

We have lived here 3 years and shop at Safeway regularly but for unknown reasons never tried Hunan Yuan. We finally did tonight and it was really good. The food was fresh and flavorful and ready quickly. We plan to return and definitely recommend it.

I've had much better for a lot less money elsewhere. The sesame chicken was bland and the sauce was very soupy. I've been other places that give you white rice with entrees which would've helped to soak it up, but this place doesn't do that. I ordered veggie fried rice with it, which I also thought was bland, but it at least helped soak up the soupy sauce. Maybe this place skimps on takeout orders compared to eating there, but I'd try a different place if I were you.

Updating my review to 5 stars as I've grown to really appreciate this restaurant! This is a great option for some delicious Chinese food if you're in the Oakland Hills area. My kids are currently obsessed with beef chow mein, and Hunan Yuan definitely satisfies their cravings. A single takeout order of chow mein may at first appear to be a small serving, but they fully pack that container so there is more than enough for my 2 kids, possibly a few bites remaining. Our family's recent favorites include: Walnut Shrimp Mongolian Beef Broccoli Chicken or Beef Sweet and Sour Pork Beef Chow Mein Tomato Beef Chow Fun They've also recently added a nice outdoor seating area. Service is very friendly and efficient!
