Here is my thoughts.

Great atmosphere – The restaurant had a warm and welcoming vibe ,you can reserve your preferable seat.

🍽️ Good variety of Afghan dishes – The buffet included traditional Afghan items like Qabili Pallow, Eggplant Borani (Bonjan Borani), Kofta Challow,Bolani,Mantoo dumplings etc.

Buffet Iftar: in ramadan good value for a buffet – Reasonable price considering the amount and variety of food.Dates, appetizers-Pakora and all the other Afghan dishes.Well-timed service – Food was ready around sunset which made it convenient to break the fast.

📍 Convenient location in Oakland – Easy to reach from 12street bart station 5mon of walk

🤲 They have prayer rooms for the Muslim community male female separated and obviously Halal food .

Recommended dishes: Kofta Challow, Mantoo Ground Beef Dumplings, Baklava 1 Piece, Beef Chapli Kabab, Bolani and Qabili Pallow

I can’t say enough good things about this place—it’s amazing every time I go. It’s a family-run restaurant, which really shows in how attentive and welcoming they are. That plate in the photo looks impressive, but hidden under all that rice is a massive lamb leg that’s tender and full of flavor. I also love their in-house habanero sauce (the orange bottle) for a little extra punch—it’s seriously tasty. I’ve never left this place feeling anything less than completely satisfied. The portions are generous, the flavors are bold, and everything is done really well. If you’re in the area and love hearty, well-prepared food, this spot is an absolute must. I can’t recommend it enough—definitely a favorite of mine for a satisfying, flavorful meal.

This is the third year I organize a large event at Kamdesh in Ramadan. The service is excellent and the food is amazing. They are very generous and accommodating. Thank you for your service.

I came here for a group iftar. The food was okay, but there were noticeably more vegetarian options than protein options. The dishes were also extremely basic and did not feel like a true reflection of proper Afghan cuisine.

What I didn’t like was that the buffet clearly did not have enough food for the number of people present. The servers kept saying, “It’s coming,” while people were waiting for dishes to be refilled.

The total came out to $27.58 per person for very little food, which felt extremely overpriced for the options provided.

Another issue is that you can’t run a buffet where food is made only as needed during iftar. Restaurants should roughly estimate how much food will be required. People also don’t have much time, since many need to leave for prayers.

Overall, I do not recommend this place for iftar.

We are here tonight with a group of five. It was just fantastic. There was a buffet, so we got to try a lot of different dishes. The food was extremely good, with really wonderful flavor. It was clearly prepared with a motif of care and skill, and I enjoyed everything.

The atmosphere is very casual and easy going. Felt homey and welcoming.

Don't come expecting fancy, but if you are looking for a wonderful in a comfortable setting, I couldn't recommend it more highly. Places like this are what make living here great.

I do food deliveries regularly and often pick up orders from this Afghan restaurant. From day one, every staff member has been extremely kind, respectful, and welcoming. They are always organized and make sure orders are ready on time, which makes a big difference for us drivers.

Today I had an amazing surprise — the owner kindly invited me to have dinner there on the house. I chose the lamb wrap, and it was absolutely delicious. The lamb was tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned with rich, balanced flavors. The bread was fresh, and the toppings complemented the meat perfectly, making the wrap both satisfying and flavorful without feeling heavy.

More than just a great meal, it was a genuine act of generosity that truly meant a lot to me. This is the kind of place that values people — not just customers, but everyone involved.

Highly recommend. Incredible team and amazing food.
