Upon entering this establishment I was immediately met with welcoming warm smiles and teethy laughter. The well designed menu included large font allowing for legibility and ease. The formatting allowed for exciting things to be highlighted like the cold black beans and crisp red cider. Staying on the cutting edge of technology, Kitava utilized a 60hz 21” display which was incredibly immersive and created a sense of seamless selection. Seated in a well-lit, airy cove within the space, I received my culinary masterpiece in a matter of seconds—I barely had time to consume my Peruvian palette cleanser. The food might as well have been delivered with a bow the way it was so elegantly presented. The second the first morsel of lettuce hit my seasoned tastebuds I had to pause and ground myself, knowing that the entire trajectory of my food critique career would be forever changed. The notes of freshly picked dill from the French Laundry Culinary Garden, paired with 12 day aged avocado culminated in a burst of fist clenching flavor. I immediately stood up with such a force the table flipped—in a panic I dove towards my meal in fear that my outburst would result in the spillage of the most precious delicacy that I have ever had the fortune of consuming. Luckily the dish was saved but I am in the hospital with a torn MCL, ACL and a punctured lung (likely from the croutons slamming against my chest). The EMTs were gracious enough to bring the salad along with me during my harrowing journey to the hospital. I am now on life support but the salad is providing me with enough fortitude to not only write out this review but order 2 more servings of the Plantain Bowl via DoorDash.

Kitava offers really fresh and clean ingredients on their menu. That being said, flavors are kinda bland and the prices are kind of up there for what you get. I got the tuna poke bowl, and a hibiscus refresher, both were about a 6.5/10 in terms of taste, nothing crazy. The inside of the place is really cute though, and would come back on “work from home” days —not sure about wifi capabilities.

Update: management reached out about my experience and took the time to make things right. My issue was with service, not the actual food or ambience of the restaurant. Kudos to Bryan at Kitava for amending the experience. I had gone back after this experience and it was much better, staff were super friendly and food came out promptly!

Prior review experience:
The food was fine, I just had a mediocre service experience. I ordered to dine in and waited 20 minutes which they were busy so I get that. I didn’t question until someone who ordered after me got all their food and 5 more minutes passed by. I asked one of the staff members and she said oh sorry we’re just busy, walked to the food pass and saw my food had just been sitting there and brought it over and didn’t say anything to the effect of “hey that’s our bad we missed it so sorry” or just a polite comment ya know? I tipped when ordering and it’s $25 bowl meal, not trying to be super extra but it’s not McDonald’s and a simple courtesy would have been nice. My food was barely warm due to sitting on the pass.

Anyways that’s my rant lol the food is good here, hoping it was just an off day for them.

Salad bowl was delicious, and the cashew based ice cream (cashew flavor) was incredible.

Kitava is by far one of my favorite places - their food not only tastes delicious but it also makes you feel so so good!! I’ve loved every single thing I’ve gotten, including their salads, bowls, immunity broth, brussels, all their protein options (their barbacoa beef is AMAZING), and their sweet treats! Their space feels so homey and clean and their staff is the absolute friendliest staff around. Overall they are a 100/10 place and I recommend them to everyone!

Paid 30 dollars for the sesame chicken with extra chicken. Was very disappointed in the food. It was too salty and lacked flavor. Panda Express makes much better chicken for way less. The plantain with rice and beans seemed to be good.

The brownie was okay.

It was easy to order gluten free vegan options here without needed to alter menu items. Delicious and healthy! I appreciate vegan options that aren’t an afterthought or just a side.

I normally eat at Kitava. I love this spot but unfortunately this time around I ordered their Fish & Chips which is normally really good. I’ve seen new items on their menu and I’m wondering if they made changes to this particular recipe. If they did then this is horrible. The fish literally taste like it’s been seasoned with water. It seriously lacks flavor and the sauce with the dill is gross. Even the side slaw that comes with it is gross. It used to be good which is why I’m disappointed. I can’t believe how much this lacks flavor, there is no flavor in this at all whatsoever. To reiterate it taste like nothingness just bland almost like I’m chewing Arrowhead water. I had to get a refund through Grubhub.

"You are what you eat" & Kitava truly helps you reach your most healthy, grounded, and glowy version! They have seen so successful at creating delicious dishes with 100% healthy ingredients. I have brought my gluten-free friends here and they leave delighted, since they can eat everything.

I love the bowls but my absolute favorite is their plant-based soft serve Cashew ice cream. Getting one is part of my weekend routine!
