Chef Matt was very engaging and gave lots of extra advice about cooking from his experiences. My class had never met before, but he pulled us together to cook as a team. We made great Thai food!

The cooking basics course is an absolute MUST for anyone learning to cook!!! I have always been incredibly nervous around cooking (re: could barely follow a recipe) and have spent my life living off of sandwiches and cereal... so I decided that it was time to finally learn. I live in a different state so when I found the virtual option for the basics series I was a bit apprehensive but enrolling was the BEST DECISION! Chef Olive is great at breaking down each dish to our level while still empowering us to be able to move away from recipes and create things we love. Every week turned out delicious and I now feel so much more confident in my abilities (I've actually started cooking for fun)! I cannot recommend this course enough!!!

Wow, what a wonderful night! We had a party for my husband's birthday last night at the Oakland location of Kitchen on Fire, and it was perfection from start to finish. The booking was easy and the communication between booking and the event was perfect. I went early to take some wine and decorations and they were there 2 hours before to meet and greet me.Once the party started, we were given some cheese and cold cuts to take the edge off the hunger while we were prepping. Chef Anthony was superb. He was flexible to how we conducted the event, letting us do as much as possible on our own, while imparting his extensive experience to make us better cooks! We came away with many little tips and tricks to make cooking at home easier, safer and more fun.We chose to make 4 small plates which were Asian themed. We make Thai larb, Fresh Spring Rolls, Fried rice with Shrimp, and Chicken pot stickers. All the ingredients were set out on the work tables and we broke into groups to do the final chopping and prep with Chef hopping from group to group to make sure we didn't goof anything up. Finally time to go to the "fire" to make perfect browned but tender pot stickers, spicy and flavorful larb, and tasty fresh fried rice. We ate the dishes as we cooked and it was plenty of food to satisfy us all.We brought our own beer/wine, but quickly realized we needed all our senses to do the "work" and not cut off any fingers! I cannot say enough about what an enjoyable and fun evening this was for all the guests and my husband on his special birthday. I highly recommend this venue for your next event or party - you will have a great time while learning some new cooking skills!

We used to love taking classes at this place but the last few times we have attended, we’ve had a diminished experience. Our first two classes were amazing and we learned so much. The classes began with a mini lesson and explanation of all we’d do, some background on the food itself, including quality and sourcing. The instructor explained each table activity and the recipes were on the table, and laminated All people were actively doing intricate things. I even learned to shuck oysters!Yesterday’s class was too full so each person did very little. I can chop green onions and peel eggs at home and not spend $175. The teacher barely instructed and when she included the participants it was stir food she’d already placed in the pot and seasoned. Overall ver disappointing and we won’t likely return. And no dessert for that kind of money l?

I've taken two classes at Kitchen on Fire over the years, both with Chef Mat, and they were both super fun and informative. Definitely take the Knife Skills class if you're always worried about cutting your fingers!

I loved the knife skills class taught by Chef Mat. He crammed so much information into a three hour session! I also appreciate people who know their profession so well they can be irreverent, and also entertaining! I highly recommend it!

Great experience for our budding chef! He learned some important skills and had a lot of fun. Will definitely register him for more classes! Thank you KOF team.

Hands down my favorite cooking class. the chefs were professional (and fun!), the food was fresh and organic, and I left the class having a solid baseline, a confidence to use various knives, and a playbook for a 4-course meal. Best Bay Area 'value-for-money' activity I've done, and good for a solo experience, a date night, or family activity (I went with my brother and my mom!)

Definitely 6 stars to the KOF team. We celebrated a birthday here, amazing experience. Chef Kevin with Chef Philip are so great, we cooked, drank and laughed. The results were just so delicious.

I attended the Puerto Rican Cuisine class on Ocotober 8th with Chef Ansarys and loved it! Chef Ansarys is wonderful, she has really good energy and the ability to explain all the 'how to' so that it's all easy to understand and fun to do! She makes sure that everyone in the group is engaged and understanding the process and she takes time to explain the details, such as the importance of holding your knife and your hands correctly so that your able to safely and quickly chop veggies, explains the different types of seasonings, veggies and meats used in Puerto Rican cuisine and has you take part in the different cooking methods used in preparing the meal. I learned so much!!! And in the end we all enjoyed a fabulous 5 course Puerto Rican meal. Definately a 5 star class and I look forward to taking more classes with her!

I had the chance last night to take the French Bistro class with some friends and highly recommend it. The instructors were terrific, the recipes were fun and the final meal was delicious. You can also take your own wine! Everyone in the class of about a dozen people seemed to enjoy themselves very much. I often cook alone and it was a good reminder how much more fun it can be to cook with people, strangers and friends alike,

A friend of mine told me about Kitchen on Fire for cooking classes and I still have plans to book them in the future for that, but this is a review for their catering services. I was put in charge of planning a mid-sized company gathering and reached out to several local caterers in the early planning stages. We ultimately picked Kitchen on Fire because of their prompt, friendly, and informative communication, reasonable pricing, and consistently good reviews. The serving trays, dishware, and utensils were also compostable or reusable which aligns with my company's values of environmental sustainability and helped immensely with cleanup at the end of the event.I had to keep a few dietary restrictions in mind for some of our attendees and Terry, my main point of contact, was so helpful and accommodating during the entire process from start to finish. I was provided a large menu with food items to choose from that followed our summer picnic theme, and everything we ended up going with earned the praise of everyone in attendance. There was a bit more salad than we ended up eating the day of, but we gladly took that and other things home. I'm surprised there aren't more catering reviews for Kitchen on Fire but I cannot recommend enough calling them for your future events.

I went to a vegan cooking class with Chef Terry. I had a wonderful time! The class was a good size, 9 people, which is a great balance between meeting new people & 1-on-1 instruction with the chef. I learned a new skill (working with tempeh) that encouraged me to continue growing that skill at home. Chef Terry prepared a really good and varied menu, so I'm happy that I have those recipes for the future. My one recommendation is to have 1 or 2 assistants to help with simple requests, like finding spices, oils, & measuring instruments. I've taken other classes which have as many as 1 assistant per station, which I think is a bit much, but it means the instructor focuses on cooking questions rather than troubleshooting and material gathering. All in all, I had a great time and will visit again.
