I ordered both the hot chicken and honey butter and they're actually chicken tenders that are a match made in heaven.
The food came out fresh from the kitchen, and was truly delicious. Maybe the best fried chicken I've had in Oakland in a while

Finally tried Matt Horn’s Kowbird and it was disappointing to say the least. Ordered the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich, which was WAY too spicy.
I pride myself on being able to eat spicier than most of my Indian and Mexican friends, but the sandwich was just unbearably spicy. This makes sense when I learned they season it with scorpion, ghost pepper and cayenne. It didn’t help that they didn’t have slaw that day — strange for a restaurant with 5 items on the menu.
The iced tea was supposed to have a hint of honey but it was so sweet it tasted like syrup.
The interior felt sad and rundown, like an abandoned diner.

I love fried whole chicken wings, but they’re somewhat more scarce than one might think. Sure you have wingstop and fire wings, but they’re not the same. I’ve been patronizing this establishment since they opened, but the quality is deteriorating. The wings are left in the brine for far too long making them excessively salty. This has been the problem for a while. I thought they would eventually correct it, but the problem persists. The food is greasy often saturating the box it’s delivered in. I feel this establishment has seen better days.

Thrilled to come upon this restaurant during a Keep Oakland Beautiful neighborhood event. The chicken sandwich was perfection and the combo meal portions were very satisfying. Had a side of the creamy mac & cheese and been dreaming about it since. The front of the house person answered my questions with helpful information and was very attentive throughout our meal. She made us feel welcome and comfortable. Looking forward to my next visit.

Staff is super friendly. The quality of food has gone downhill. In the past sandwiches have been tasty and juicy. My recent visits have been nothing but dry crust with hardly any chicken. West Oakland deserves better food joints than this.

Got the Honey Bird and every component was excellent and came together to make an incredible sandwich. Fries are awesome with the bird sauce as well.
