Very disappointed in the Pecan Butter Rum torte. While visiting from out of town we found La Farine in Piedmont and thought "a French torte would be the perfect desert to bring to a small dinner party." At nearly $30 I figured it had to be good. Sadly I couldn't have been more wrong. This pecan torte had virtually zero flavor... the most bland, unimpressively tasteless baked good I have ever had! Even our local family members, (all of whom had baked goods from La Farine in the past) were very disappointed. I should've saved my money and bought a pie from the grocery store. To make matters worse, every person at the table is a "foodie" who has eaten at some of the finest bakeries in NY, France and Italy. The torte I brought became the joke of the night. How embarrassing.

I love this bakery. BUT, for years I've been getting their Rustic baguette. It's always had a crunchy crust with a delicious tasty inside. Lately, the crust has been soft and the inside chewy, doughy and tasteless. Did you get a new baker or change the recipe?

Wow, I am blown away with the quality of the Fruit Tarts, muffins, pastries and cakes. I did get a loaf of spurt bread and could not believe how tasty it was. I can't wait to go back and get more of their bread. This ranks at the top of the best bakeries in the East Bay. I will post photos next time.

So sad because I walk to this place before work every morning and order 3 lemon short breads . This time as I was eating I pulled back my food as a hair was sliding out of my mouth and very gross completely threw up my food this is not okay at all nobody is wearing hair nets while dealing with food or gloves

Clutch Oakland bakery. It's been a staple always having quality pastries and bread. The morning bun and ham and cheese are the best. The parfaits and Tarts are a great recommendation for those that have a sweet tooth.
What stands out to me is that they don’t rely on sugar and butter!! If you are concerned about sugary taste, greesy taste of bread, this would be the best place for you. Rustic french baguettes is so crusty, perfectly aery.This golden brown crust gives so aromatic and fantastic flavor! Their baking and fermentation skill of dough is exceptional!

This La Farine is probably my favorite cafe and bakery in this Piedmont district. I go here weekly because they still have the most affordable coffee, at $2.40 for a small drip coffee, it's the best deal in the area. The coffee is not only affordable but strong and wakes me up. Their pastries are top-notch too, whether it's a morning bun or a cookie, it usually satisfies my cravings. As for the space, it's clean and pretty big with a good amount of tables and chairs, and there is a bathroom in the back area. The cafe could use a community board though (for locals and others to post events and other community info), the way other cafes have. Still La Farine is probably the best cafe/bakery on Piedmont.
