A favorite place of mine for decades. Many a date has eaten here. Oh so good, but beware you might spill curry on your shirt and not be bothered about it at all.

We come here solely for Banh Hoi Thit Nuong because each ingredient is amazingly fresh: lettuce, mint, carrots, rice noodles, sprouts and the best sliced bbq pork with tart and puckery nuoc cham. Roll it all up together with the DIY rice paper wrappers and it is a heavenly meal that can easily feed 2 people. Commit to getting your hands messy and you’ll have a great time. Also, paid street parking is a bit tough so have patience as you’ll need to do a few laps around the block. And DO NOT leave any valuables in your car. Take them with you.

Le Cheval is a remarkable dining experience that truly captures the essence of French cuisine. From the moment you step through the door, you are greeted with an inviting ambiance and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant's attention to detail is evident in every aspect, from the elegant decor to the impeccable service. The menu at Le Cheval is a culinary delight, offering a variety of classic French dishes prepared with a modern twist. Each plate is a work of art, beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The chefs here are undoubtedly talented, skillfully combining fresh, high-quality ingredients to create a symphony of taste. One standout dish that must not be missed is their Coq au Vin. The tender chicken braised in red wine sauce is simply divine, accompanied by a medley of perfectly cooked vegetables. The flavors are rich, robust, and soul-satisfying. Another must-try is their Ratatouille, a colorful and vibrant vegetable stew that exemplifies the beauty of French Provencal cuisine. The salty prawns at Le Cheval are a true delight, perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. Their flavorful and succulent nature makes them a standout dish that is sure to please seafood lovers. And when it comes to the Moscow Mule, Le Cheval's rendition is simply to die for. The refreshing blend of ginger beer, vodka, and lime served in a copper mug creates a harmonious balance of flavors that is both satisfying and invigorating. It's a fantastic choice to complement your meal and enhance your overall dining experience. The service at Le Cheval is impeccable, with knowledgeable and attentive staff who are passionate about providing a memorable dining experience. They are more than happy to recommend wine pairings or offer insights into the menu. The attention to detail extends to the presentation of each dish, as the servers provide a thorough explanation of the ingredients and preparation techniques. The atmosphere at Le Cheval is refined and sophisticated, making it an ideal choice for a special occasion or a romantic evening. The dim lighting and cozy seating create an intimate setting, allowing guests to enjoy their meals in peace. However, it is worth noting that dining at Le Cheval can be quite expensive, as the quality of the food and the overall experience come at a premium. Nevertheless, it is an investment well worth making for those seeking an exceptional French dining experience. In conclusion, Le Cheval is a gem among French restaurants, offering exquisite cuisine, impeccable service, and an ambiance that transports you to the heart of France. Whether you are a seasoned food enthusiast or someone looking to indulge in a special occasion, Le Cheval is a culinary destination that should be on your list.

My go-to place for comfort food. Good quality, delicious, and prompt service. Their fried chicken wings and drummets are my favorite fried chicken in Oakland.

I ordered a garlic chowmien with SHRIMP and other dish for to go. When got home there was NO SHRIMP in the fried noodles. They changed you extra money for the shrimp. I used to come here at least once a month either to go or eat in. Their food are not great but ok enough when you don’t want to cook. Other restaurants around here are pretty pricey and taste bad. So they are the only restaurants that I went to when too tire to cook. I had better Vietnamese foods before. They not the best but it just the only restaurant food not so bad that you feel like being robbed for your hard earned money. They were unfriendly until they you come a few times. I may not go back there again. Berkeley has better restaurants.

Last night all my family went to eat at LeCheval in Oakland. The food was great but the service is so bad. Our party was about 18 people and we had one waitress that never smile, took some of the order wrong and got annoyed when she brought the wrong drinks and we said we didn’t order that. I don’t think I’ll come again.

Gave my sis n law Bachelorette dinner here. Everything was delicious. The combo clay pot is my go to. Or the quail with a side of green beans. Yummy!

I've been coming here since 2004 and i can honestly say its still as good as the first time i came here. The food is always perfect consistently as well as the service. If you come here for lunch they have great specials and will have you in and out in 30 minutes. I cant say enough about how well this place runs. I like to consider La Cheval as the place that sets the standards from which all others are judged as they hit all mark's. My favorites are everything, ok tht said my usuals are the carrot chowder, clay pot rice and the spring rolls especially for lunch. Dinner well i like to step out and try as many of their tasty options i can. This trip i did the clay pot catfish (they were out of salmon) and to my surprise i will be adding this to my usual now, it was so good it had the taste of blackened cod (you know the kind they make at a great sushi restaurant). Also had their chicken wings n they were also delicious. Did i mention they have a full bar and make great cocktails too?Parking: Its mostly paid street parking but there is a paid lot around the block on the north west side of the block from the restaurant. Oh and its free street parking after 6pm.Wheelchair accessibility: Its accessible but there is a serious lack of handicap parking spots.

This is one of my go to places for both food and drinks. Their menu is great for variety and quality food items - my favs are the clay pot dish and the cubed beef rice! You can never go wrong with eating at the bar as you'll meet locals and visitors alike! Great environment for both large and small groups. One last thought....try the Snake Juice - its an experience!

Been coming here for 25 years. Never fails to be delicious. One of our go to places. Parking not bad, food dependable, good service.

I came in for lunch. Beautiful interior with plenty of seating and delightful paintings on the walls. The hostess was quick to seat us and get us menus and water. I got the cubed beef with rice and broccoli and it was very good. Appears to be great for small or large groups.
