Classic hole in the wall with excellent espresso and hot sandwiches. Tucked away on a dead end street, but easy to find by the sign out front. My new go-to when I'm on the area.

I've been getting coffee and eating lunch here weekly for years. I just changed jobs and no longer work on Filbert st and am sad to not come here regularly anymore. The prices are excellent, the menu has tons of options and I've enjoyed all of the things I've tried. I love their espresso, even go out of my way to come here for coffee from other neighborhoods sometimes. They make excellent salads and sandwiches especially their superb breakfast sandwich. One of the only places you can still get a decent espresso drink for under $5. And their jamaica agua fresca is off the chart! Highly recommended!

I need to post this. I’m not a troll. I pick up my sandwich shortly before 3:pm when they close. THREE times in a row Food Poisoning! I work around the corner and have such a successful business at 95 Linden Street in Oakland that I always arrive last minute. I’m really angry now because I’m running to the bathroom consistently because of their poisonous pastrami sandwich.

Excellent Sandwiches. Can't wait too try other things on the menu. Service is great but the place is out of the way on a side street. If the location was closer to jack london square I would think they would be alot busier. I found Montes only because of the sandwich board on the corner of 3rd street. Definitely a must try if your in the Area. The Chicken Pesto Is the Bomb!!!
